i have a 57 chevy pickup and am installing some aftermarket gauges in a piece i made thats fits the stock bezel. h2o, oil, amp, fuel and that only leaves enough space for a speedo that can only be 2-5/8". i cannot find anyone who makes one except for motorcycles. i dont have a problem with that except does anyone know what gear ratio the stock speedo is? 700r ****** was dead on when my stock speedo was working and im thinking i read somewhere that it is 2 to 1. any help is appreciated.

Take a nomal size one pull it apart and put it in a smaller cup, may or may not work depending on the size of the guts, if you install it from the backside without a cup and trim the edges of the face it might work too

Why not get your original one rebuilt. There are a number of places that do rebuilds, or will replace the innards with modern parts. I think Cl***ic Instruments is one that will do it.

some of the old HD speedos are 2:1, available aftermarket and should be stamped on the case.

  5. All USA speedometers work on the same gear ratio, though I forget now what that is (2000 rpm = 60 mph maybe). However, I'm not positive that the speedo you found will be to that standard. But, plug it in and see!! At the worst, you'll have to change the trans gearing. At best, you'll motor happily along.

fyi i found one at speedhut. in case anyone ever needs a mini speedo they got em in 2-1/8 and 2/5/8 as well as all the other standard sizes. they are elec and will work with any pulse sender and are easy to calibrate however they are only a speedo and have no odometer. thanks to all who gave me advice
