Glad you liked the green Plymouth coupe. It was so fresh out of the box that before we started out that morning, the driver found out that the generator wasn't working. Did that stop him? Not with friends around. Drove up and back on the battery. Nutsy? Still dedicated to the cause I say.............

I know this is one of those 'if you have to ask, you wouldn't understand' type-events, but what on earth makes you work so hard on getting your hotrod done up, attention to every nut and bolt, and then slathering your whole ride in the mud? Don't get me wrong-I'm all for playing in the mud. Just not with something as nice as the cars you guys & gals have. I'm missing something here- I already know all y'all is tore up from the floor up:D. That's why I feel like I fit in here. But ya really gots to be a chewed up individual to want to do that to your beautiful car(s) unless it's just simply one of those, "ahhh **** it-you only live once". Am I even close?

it might seem odd to some people to do this . but from what i get out of larrys show and why he wanted to do something like this was to give the people something to do other then to sit in lawn chairs behind there cars . there are PLENTY of cars that dont go in the mudd .. they stay high and dry on the packed dirt and do photo hot laps around the track just like the cars would have done back in the day ( and some still do ) for racing . so they can say hey i drove my hot rod around a dirt track .
theres are many cars that like to have fun in the mudd alot of the cars that do are actually peoples daily drivers
other then the laps around the track theres plenty of things going on in the infeild with a metal shaping demo to the car racing museum .
some people understand others do not .. its my fav show thats what i have to say and thank you larry

I guess you don't understand why people go to Bonneville just to get all that damned salt on their cars, either?

I figured it was a throwback to how they did it back in the day, thanks for clarifying. And it looks like one helluva fun time. It's not like "I don't get it". I knew I was going to subject myself to some hazing, so thanks for a simple answer to what I thought was a simple question.
I get the salt. It's the holy grail of early american racing in my mind. Take a midol Nappy. I have a great appreciation for the roots and history of early american hotrodding and someday I hope to get the chance to feel that salt first hand. I know I don't know it all and that's the main reason I'm here on the hamb-It's daily history lessons of the pioneers that came before me doing what I love as well.
    Thanks again metalhotrodgirl. Great pics.

Must be fun, but not in my car and she ain't a queen by any means. I just can't imagine the clean up necessary. I don't like to run in the rain. To each his own. Would be fun to watch from a fur piece. Ice man

I've raced dirt cars since '78, just wish there was a track close with that much run-off room that we could rent around here! I would've loved to put the War Pony through some laps on that track! Thanks for the pics!! :D

Even if you don't watch the cars runnin' around the track it is way cool to hear them while you shottin' the bull and hangin' with a bunch of good folks.
Its good to see this old thread again. Its bringin' back memories of the event...

Great coverage. Thanks for sharing. BTW, not to be picky but the '63 Chevy is really a '62.
We held the National Record in B/S with a '62 380 hp 409 so I'm really partial to them.
