I know I am opening myself up for some comedy, but I truly need help identifying this tool I found in my Dads tool box. He's gone but not forgotten thanks for any help!
It looks like it might be some sort of specialized hole punch. Possibly for leather belts of a certain width.
Hey, Did your father cut rough lumber? It looks like a saw "set" to me. A set is used to bend or "set " the teeth on a saw whyle it's being sharpened. S****ey Devils C.C. "Spending A Nation Into Generational Debt Is Not An Act Of Comp***ion!"
Kerf setter for setting teeth on a sharpened hand saw. If you look at the teeth they bend left right left right.........
I concur with the saw set, I have one very similar with an adjustable gauge on it, after sharpeing the teath were realigned to the proper cutting angle. I believe the one I have is suitable for every thing from a miter saw to two man timber saw.
It's an adjustable saw set used when setting the kerf(width of cut) on a saw I have used them alot .According to the old timers a properly sharpened and "set" hand saw you can slide a sewing needle down the V formed in the teeth with this tool. That is lay a needle in the trough of the set teeth and tilt the saw a bit and the needle will slide from tip to handle without falling off the saw .
You are also going to find a little tool that holds a file over a slot...it cuts the teeth down to same height, if they are uneven, before they are filed sharp.
