Putting a c4 auto in a 49 merc

    I was thinking of putting a flat o matic c4 kit in a 49 merc has anyone done this and what problems did you come up against thanks for your help

    What engine are you using - the flathead?

    Yep using the flatty has a flatty and a three speed at the moment

    I don't think it is common to use a C-4 with stock flathead in a Mercury. But this might help. http://www.google.com/search?source...4ADBF_enUS257US258&q=C-4+and++flathead+engine
    Usually the engine is changed also as the merc is so heavy. But I think it would be similiar to installing the C-4 behind any 8BA flathead. Make sure you know what the rear axle ratio is in your Merc so your trans gives you the desired results. I would call Flat-O-Matic Corp.
