Is there a way to use a Ford speedometer cable and speedometer (1977) to hook up to a Chevy TH400 transmission? Is there a conversion gear? If so can someone pont me in the right direction to purchase?
On the older Fords ... it bolts right up. I had a 56 F-100 Big Window and installed a BBC and a Turbo 400 ... I did have to change the speedometer drive gears in the tal case to get it calibrated correctly ... but that's NOT a big deal either This photo shows a 700R4 but the gears function the same way in a Turbo 400
Yep or a universal cable with the correct ends. This site has a wealth of information on Speedometer drives and cables. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/speedometer_calibration_______va.htm A lot of us here have it bookmarked for reference and almost everything they show should be avaialble locally but you can order from them too. The simplest way to calibrate a speedometer now days is to use a gps to check the speedometer and then figure out what percentage it is off and go from there.
This is the end of my speedo cable..... ..... and the interface with the trans. But I am being told I have to buy a new TH400 cable, which is okay, but I was sure hoping all I had to do was mod the end of the cable and plug it into the trans. Dang it.
