MOPAR Generator interchangeability question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by wolfhound423, Jun 1, 2009.

  1. Could some nice fellow HAMBer that has a bit of personal knowledge or a Hollander check on something for me? I have a line on a cheap, rebuildable generator out of a 59 DeSoto (Model # GJM8001A). I am rebuilding a 55 Plymouth Hyfire 260 to cram into my 49 Plymouth, and the only missing part was the generator - it burnt up. With the right bracket (or one I fab up), can I use a 59 MOPAR generator on a 55 MOPAR?? Is it worth it to rebuild an old core, or should I just try and find something at Napa? Thanks....

A Hollander to cross reference parts - it's next on the "to buy" list.

You Going to use a 59 12 Volt on a 55 6 volt system.. or are you going to change it all to 12 volt??

  4. Oh no... going to change it all over to 12v. I am tired of the groaning, slow motion starter, flickering headlights, and the funky old gutta percha wiring. Oh, and I'd like to be able to hide some tunes in the glovebox.

im guessing that the 55 doesnt have power steering run off the back of the generator. its not that expensive to have a generator rebuilt. i believe i paid around 100 dollars for mine.
