JUST SCARY!!, T-bucket project at Midland ! (someone is going to get hurt!)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Harms Way, May 31, 2009.

  1. Since we clearly aren't looking at the same car, I'll defer to your crystal ball opinion. From the picture, I DON'T see an opening door. I DIDN'T read that the frame was a speedway unit either. Since we are ADDING pieces we can't see... why not drop in a 392 hemi, blower, etc etc etc. Now we'll all step up for a slice of that pie in the sky.
And yes, it would be nice to live in a world where it's not 2009. Just ask the soon to be out of work GM supporting cast.

Just to add to the conversation, here's one I photographed while moving stuff around. Seems like an appropriate post. Sort of. Probably a little safer too.

This project wasn't being presented as just a "Mock Up",........ no front suspension, no opening door,..... just a jeep seat shoved into it and a piece of plywood sat in it for a floor. If this was just a mock up why would you take the time to bend the tubing, thread the tubing "weld" it up and make it look like something done and ready to go (from a short distance they looked like the real thing),... A couple pieces of angle iron and some C clamps would have held it for a mock up.

I am actually really shocked at the number of people defending this as acceptable!,..
I don't believe for one minute that the builder of those hairpins was going to tell someone, "when you get home, just throw those out". 4 brand new clevises would cost you under $30.00. If your going to put something on a project car to sell , at least try to make it safe. If you want to gamble with your life, go ahead, but not with the life of somebody else.

These should have never been on this project to even represent hairpins. IMHO

  4. ^^^(hugh m) Is that a side car?

Hey its tech week maybe that guy can tell us how to use J-B weld for suspension parts.WTF

  7. Not so much as defending the guy because I was not there, more over presenting things in a way as to fool other. I feel it is our duty to bring things like this to light, as I do not want to be next to said project when it fails and either kills me or kills someone else. To many people have jumped on the "build a car because it is cool" wagon. This is something that is sad that we live in a world where people don't take the time to educate themselves as to the ins and outs of building a car. I am self taught, it has taken years of listening to those that know, trail and error plus extensive reading before I even thought I had a clue. I could fill a thimble with what I know, compared to the bucket of knowledge that is out there.

I wouldn't feel comfortable selling that to anyone, the thought of somebody just TRYING to run it makes me sick to my stomach.

Part of me wants to say buy it and get another joke away from the unsuspecting, the other part of me hopes it never sells, thereby preventing the "builder" from creating yet another masterpiece of award winning snail trails posing as welds on iron at his "custom performance hot rod shop".

I would find it hard to believe that this is no more than a mock up as many above have stated. No one with the ability to put a nut on a screw could possibly believe this is "good enough" for any thing but the ability to roll on to a trailor or for moving in/out of the shop.

Also, YOU took the time to photograph and upload these pics into your computer......then took the effort to post this thread to HAMBers that would for the most part know better, I think you should have tracked the guy down to see what the deal is....mabe the guy selling it didnt build it and has no idea what he is trying to sell?!?!?! Well, I would have tracked the guy down to see what the story was instead of posting it here...Who knows, you could have saved someones life??

And people bitch on here all the time about street rodders and the way they BUY brackets instead of fabricating them...that shows the reason they buy them. They're smart enough to know what their abilites are! And they have the money to buy what's proven to work. The guys that MADE stuff like that "back in the day" aren't around anymore because their skills sucked! :) :)

All I can say is WTF???

  23. Musta been a BIG soldering iron!

  24. That body, Sppedway or not, is the most expensive piece there, but the rest of the project devalues it If it wasn't a probuilt frame under it, and it was fabbed by the 'builder', it's $20 a ton. Whatever the rear end is, $50, new shocks $60 or so, some storebought bracketry, and whatever the front axle setup is. $500 is generous..........

It looks like he shit slapped it together to sell it in a hurry . If anyone would buy something and not go over it with a fine tooth comb , then you are just plain stupid . When I buy something that is 1/2 ass work , I just start over and make sure it's done right . I just don't trust someone else's work like that when I am the one that's going to drive it on the road !

I think it's a mock up so someone has a idea what it should look like !
1/2 ass yes , but someone will get the idea .

Not sure that shit would even make it threw a hard burn out. Not to mention a emergence braking situation. Hopefully this was a mock up
