I had planned to buy the ACCEL $149 HEI (includes a free set of wires that I need) but ran across the Summit HEI for $90 in the catalog.
Any one have anthing negative or positive on the Summit? I sure would like to save $60 if I can.

I heard somewhere through the g****vine that the Summit brand dizzy is actually a re-branded name brand (Accell? Mallory? I dont recall)

    Prob is I don't remember...

I Do know that I bought a reman pertonix dizzy that was a hunert bucks less, came with the full factory warranty and cept for the two little spots that had indentions from the clamp, looked new, new gears, new shaft, new guts etc....been on the truck for a few years with no issues....

Just a question, why HEI? I ran one for years with no problems but switched to the pertronix when I put a multi set up on and didnt have the room for the huge ugly clunkyness....PLUS I've found that you can fine tune and upgrade an external coil in infinate ways more than getting locked down with the HEI....and they look better imho

Well, HEi cuz I'm over 60 and have been there and done that long ago. Want to cruise easy and tackle new projects. I've already gone for max-ex and am on the downslope. Would go with points but HEI looks soo easy for my application.

I've run a Summit for 3 years with no problems. Save a buck and buy gas.

Summit makes a few H.E.I.s. Make sure the one your looking at has the br*** terminals, although I dont think they sell the cheaper ones anymore (not in the new catalog anyway) For a few bucks more though you can step up to MSD entry level HEI (Part # MSD-8362), this unit comes with a better module. Ive used both on the same SBC and I swear the truck runs better with the MSD

I BELIEVE it's Mallory... That's who made the house brand ignitions at the speed shop I worked at (half the house brand stuff they didn't even bother to take out of the name brand box)... Summit don't make ****, so there are some deals to be had if you track down who makes it.

I highly recommend you get an MSD. I am pretty sure Accel and Summit brand are the same made in China junk, if you go with the standard style GM HEI. I wouldn't wish Pertronix on my worst enemies. I run an MSD Electronic Distributor with a Spark Box in my shoebox. I keep the box hidden under my dash and use the old socket style cap, painted the aluminum body with cast grey paint.
I had a summit brand GM HEI in my Camaro back when I was a kid. Biggest piece of ****!! You'll be changing the carbon ****on inside the cap that contacts the rotor, once a month. The coil they put inside those things could be used to power a small city. Nobody with a street driven car F'in needs 50 to 60,000 volts at the coil!!! I run MSD's in both my cars. Well made product, made in the U.S. a little more expensive, but I've never had a problem with it. The money you save with a knock off, will be spent at a later time fixing something. My 2 cents.

Summit blueprint HEI for 5 years, no problems. Someone else makes it, I am not sure who, if you compared instructions, that would be the telltale.

I've got 2 of them, with lots of miles on them, and no real problems. Summit brand my not buy you any extra brownie points, but they do work.

  13. I've used a lot of Summit parts and never had one fail. I haven't used the summit HEI so I can't tell you anything positive or negative about it.

I have encountered several ACCEL HEI distributors with problems. They all seem have had the same problem crossfire and spark retarding. They always check out fine. Go figure.

Anyway that's my .02. I'm sure that lots of other fellas have had good luck with them.

got mine from summit...twas in the catalog

As far as ease is concerned....I aint talkin points....my pertronix is drop it in and forget it...I started tweekin and tuning after it had been on for a bit in conjunction with tunin the multi set up...

Just sayin, there are other options out there that are just as easy, work better, and look good doin it.

Funny part is, Before I bought the Pertronix all I read was good...after I've read alot of negative....personally, I'm sold...I love mine and would get another in a heartbeat.

Personally, as with anything, I think it's an individual thing.
