I am swaping the trans in my c-10 I have th350 and a powerglide. My truck has a 230ci inline and 4.10 gears. For the sake of driveability what should I put in it.

A heavy vehicle with limited power can always benefit with an extra gear. Also a turbo 350 has a lower first gear too boot.

    Huh!?
You're still 1:1 in high gear.

  4. I think we've pretty much got a no-brainer there:eek:

  5. both are good transmissions and i have used both in projects. while both have 1:1 high gear , the two speed power glide will have either a 1.76 or 1.82 low. the tree speed th350 will have i believe a 2.52 low and a 1.52 second

the extra gearing of the th350 may help get your somewhat heavy pickup with a low powered motor going better. a 4 speed overdrive 700r4 with even lower first gear would be ideal with your 4.10 rear gears

I agree with you 3-window on the 700r4 Im just trying to stay on the cheap for right now and I have these trans just layin around.

  7. the glide needs a bell crank to work correctly
    I.e. pain in the ass
also its a pain in the ass to hook up a locar shifter

Not sure about the bell crank, I have a Pg in my car, but that being said if I had to do it over and had access to a 350 I'd run the 350 for the extra frist gear.

I have a gennie shifter in my PG and it was a snap to install.

Glides are good 1/8 mile track transmissions, the 350 is a good strong unit but the 700 is nice due to the 15% overdrive and lockup torque converter

More gear splits can get an underpowered vehicle moving easier. That's why semi trucks can have as many as 21.

Also if I remember right the trans lengths might be the same between the two but the yoke
    splines are different.

you can make a 350 churp second everytime for no $, remove the accumulator spring for second gear. It's behind the round cover on the right side. Its done all the time.

For a lightweight car I think you would enjoy the glide combo with those 4:10 gears. My 69 camaro I had was very light weight, all stock with a 6 and glide with mid 3 gears in the rear. It ran very nice around town but when I swapped out to a 350/350 combo I somewhat lost that low rpm scoot.

6's are low rpm torque motors so a glide kinda smoothes out the role from a start and it takes way less horspower to spin a glide than a 350 and 700r4.

I don know about the use of a glide in a c10 unless you have 4:88's in the rear -its too heavy of a vehicle.

I swapped my PG for a 350 a few years ago, best move I ever made. The mounts, drive shaft, everything basicly swapped over.
