    Hey everyone,

The budget is running pretty thin here and I need some ideas and Pics for a couple cheap cool air cleaners. Either roll your own or store bought. Lets see what you got!

    Thanks

What carb, what engine, what car? I have an old round chrome Harley cover sitting on top of the carb on my 292 to keep the dust out but am not sure if it would work on anything but a one barrel or two barrel.

  6. Car, engine, carburetion?
    You know, the minor stuff....

58 Chevy Flatbed, Twin supercharged 383 with 2 Predator Carbs. The scoops in the pic are not being used, looking to get something cheaper but still cool. Thanks

Coolest one I've seen was from a five pound coffee can.

Hub caps. You can find really cool pot lids (as in cooking) at thrift sores. Seen a few mailboxes, not my taste, but others seemed to like it. Use your imagination.

  13. one cool setup i saw was two old rusty circular saw blades. the bottom one had a hole to fit around the top ring on the carb, air cleaner, then the other blade with a wingnut on top. simple, cheap and bad-ass

1/4" thick aluminum tops and bottoms.
The tops are cut thinner to make a bit of a decorative step in them as well as being cut thinner from the inside top and bottom to make a retaining step for the air filters proper.

The carb adapter is a separate ring screwed on with 8-32 stainless FH screws and JB Welded so the engine won't ingest them if they vibrated loose.

The rings so they can adapt to the 500 CFM Carters.
Notches have to be cut or filed in the ring to clear the bumps on the carbs.

Got tired of looking at straight aluminum and had them powder coated.

Next change will be to machine some of the black powder off exposing the aluminum.

Made of 6061 T-6 with stainless carb 1/4-20 center studs.

  20. <<<<<<< Handmade from aluminum sign material, approx 14 gauge or so. Hammer formed on a poplar wood buck. The standoffs above the carbs are made of 3x.125 aluminum driveshaft tubing. The filter element is for a Datsun 240Z.
It may not be the prettiest, but I'm proud of it, I MADE IT!

I have seen German Army Helmets & WW2 USA Army Helmets in 4 bbls before . I have seen all kinds of beer cans & Coffee cans used on 1 & 2 bbl carbs too .

  26. Thanks, simpler than I thought.

Simple stuff is the most difficult to figure out.

Anyone can make complex stuff, but the smartest folks can make it simple and so well done that it makes a guy wonder how come I didn't think of that....
