I am piecing together an air ride system for my 55 fleetwood...I was going to use the firestone 2500 bags in the front but I just realized that the shocks go through the coil on that year? does anyone make a bag that allows this or do I have to go another route? anybody dealt with this problem?
Dude, just make new mounts elswhere. Do a search and there is dozens, well a few anyway on the right way to mount rear shocks. Doc. Ok, ok! Im too lazy to search myself.....and Im at work so I cant be seen looking at car porn....... Oh, yeah, and Im too lazy.
is the car too heavy to just run the bag and eliminate the shock and coil? if I leave a few psi in the bag?
FWIW, '57 Buick is that way, '58 they moved it to behind the A-arm with a mount on the lower redesigned A-arm and a big bracket on the frame. Dunno why you can't do the same thing on the Caddy.
gotta run slams if you wanna run no front shocks relocating is easy.. i have a relocate kit with shocks I could sell you, and I have 6" firestones brand new for sale as well, never used..
Hey, look at post #3. you dont need to relocate the shocks with a shockwave bag. Do you even read your own threads.
Yeah I do read my own posts.....I don't want to use shockwaves because they are retarded expensive for not a great amount of lowering...I get firestone stuff at cost so I am trying to figure something out using their products. Thanks for the vote of confidence nads
the shockwaves are ok, but you cant ride all the way up or all the way down (or even kinda down for that matter) or they will bust, and if they can see that you drove below "ride hieght" they wont warranty them... imho, easier to run slams and no shocks like i do in my galaxie... but if you want firestones, and i can understand with gettin shit chepa, you will need shocks, just make a tab and relocate the shock outside of the spring pocket.. do a search online this is VERY common... even look at S10 forums, or call a vendor.. call AAC and ask for Kevin (altered altitute customs).. they are in Canada, but are REALLY helpfull.. bought all my shit from them cause they are a sponsor on the lowrider forums ps - buyin my firestones is cheaper than cost i bet hahhaa.. i have 6" ones for $125 shiped if u want em, brand new, never mocked up or anything..
Look up Ekstensive http://www.ekstensive.com/ They are the best in the biz niz. They can set you up with a kit or someone who knows what they are doing in your area. Don't take yours or someone else life by a pieced together suspension.
run shocks... period... there are relocation kits if you do not want to run Shockwaves or any of the other shock.bag combos I thought you had to be stupid. Without shocks is silly and dangerous.
You can get away with running a heavier ply bag w/o shocks. It will ride stiff though. Or use an 80's Cutlass shock bolt to the rear of the lower control arm and fab an upper mount out of 2x2 tubing welded to the frame. I really do suggest you contact Ekstensive. Their stuff is flat out the best.
An 80's cutlass shock bolt is flat on one side so that your wheel will not rub it. As for what shock to use? It's up to how you fab your mounts. Most of the time we just found any shock and made it work.
