Anyone contiplating buying this one had better refer to 3W Larry's post. It represents REALITY and if you can't look forward to being in the same place and not making the statement "never again" better think twice about getting involved in this one. Another thing, if you think you can estimate what it's going to cost you to build it, better think again. I ***ociate with a high end shop and you wouldn't believe the amount of cars that have gone through his shop that were estimated at $80-$100,000 and end up over $150,000. It's just the nature of the beast and unless your well heeled it's better to stand on the sidelines and dream or get involved in something that's realistic.

You know - be like every other specualator that drove up the prices.
Buy the body for whatever price you can buy it for and regardless if you build it- just put it back up for sale for a minimum of 10% over of what you bought it for and sit on it for a year and your won't lose money.
With savings accounts paying 1 to 1.5% interest - how will you lose money unless you really need it and bail out ?
There is always somebody out there with more money to step up to the plate.

That ******** has been going on for 30 years - why stop now.....
There is always somebody to pay more right ???????

Thanks, Doug. I plan on getting it running with the rusted patina, but as soon as the bugs are gone, gloss black. Billy

    Its weird...

Nothing seems to polarise people on the HAMB like a Tread about '32 Prices and availabillity.

    I'm glad I've got mine.

Its sitting here, waiting for me to get ready to build it.

And I dont give a **** what its worth ( that would only matter if I'd want to sell it, and I dont ), or what I payed for it...

Why do people still have a hard time understanding the vaule of '32s and especially the holly grail of '32s the 3W.

I saw one in 2006 sell at the LA Roadsters Show for $17K and it was only slightly better than this one.

I will give you $8K for it and drive to California where real people will pay real prices.

It is easily worth $10-12K. Somebody will pay to have it fixed.

    I was giving financial advise.
The guy was looking for direction on what it might be worth.
It is worth what EVERY OTHER piece of metal for sale is... what someone is willing to pay and what someone is willing to sell it for.
Any year car - any brand car.

    Larry,I'm not a 32 guy - never have been.
    I am a custom guy.

    Seriously -Get over yourself.
You are a legend in your OWN mind Larry.

    Hugs and kisses,

i agree the seller should set the price on the body if wants to cut his own throat let him, BUT..... I think you should still have respect for him even if he does'nt know what he has , thats what it sounds like if he's asking you the for a price, maybe offer him 5k to 6k thats fair and a hell of a deal i think

Reading the posts on this one are really blowing me away. upwards of 5k?!?!
This is clearly a case of location changing the value of a thing.
I buy ol' cars like crazy, and For the condition that shell's in, I couldn't see it going for more than $200-300 'rond here.

Without pictures my post may be useless but, a twisted mangled hull of a 3 window right 1/4 panel, the sail panel, 1/4 of the rear window sheet metal, a door worse than yours, and a rust portion of the cowl sold at Hershey a few years back for $1,500.

Guys were fighting over it. I think the price range given here is about right.

I would say if you cant fix it yourself then p***.
My Dad just picked up a new 3w Brookville body for 18K.
He sold his original 3w body that he had a whole bunch of time and energy into. He says it wasn't worth anymore effort and no matter what he did or spent it would never be as nice as the Brookville. His original body was about like this when he started. He fixed all the floor, and inner door skins, made tons of patch panels. It had a deck lid and a new wood kit in it. He got 12K for it.

This was about 3 weeks ago...

The old "real steel has SOUL" philosophy is as legit as anything, BUT, those remnants of a 3W have been stripped of any soul it may have had. Yep, it's worth whatever someone pays for it. The "seller" wants an offer, why would you start at more than a grand?! He's playing games, play back. Worst thing that can happen is the "seller" needs a lot of beer money and you sell it to Verne for 9 thousand profit.

FWIW, I'm not against buying something like that and piecing together a complete 3W body, frankenstein style, but to start an open bid higher than a G?! Your expendable income is different than my expendable income...hahaha

I'm totally on board with "the real steel has soul" It made me sad that dad sold a real 32 3 window and opted for a repop brookville. But he is one of the few guys that really does have the skill to fix stuff that is this far gone. I can't do it and judging that is still in this condition, no one else wants to, or can either.

I was wondering though...is the current owner of this one in the thread a guy that has had this body for many years or is he just a fipper hoping to make a few bucks from a lucky find or a deal he got from someone who really has no idea what it is or what could be worth....

If you offer that guy $1,000 he will slam the door in your face. Offer 5 or 6k knowing that it is worth 8 to 12k. I don't know what is wrong with some of these people on this thread? Did they not notice the year and the body style of this car?

7 pages of replies in 2 days! It's a rusty hunk of metal! It could be something someday with a ton of moolah but honestly... why!? I'd rather take my $5K-15k and buy something running/driving and somewhat decent. Build them and sell them and eventually you'd have enough profits saved up to buy a much better '32 in probably a lot less time then it would take to buy this and have it sit around waiting on parts and causing headaches that would make the hobby less enjoyable. It's not worth it to me but to each their own. I say go for it if you REALLY want it but I think you're crazy! A lot of crazy people make some pretty cool cars though!:D

Then how hard is it for the guy to say what he wants for it? If he can't give a number, then HE deserves to have the door slammed in HIS face. :D He KNOWS what it's worth (so we've been told)... so then why NOT offer him $1000. The "game" goes both ways... :D

  26. If I had all the money in the world, I wouldn't buy that thing as a project, maybe only just to flip it to get some other fools money.

If that thing were a '32 Chevy or Dodge, it would maybe be worth $500 on a good day

It's amazing what sheep people are in this hobby, wanting to build the same car over and over and over again, to the point of paying $15,000 for basically nothing more than a roof of a '32 Ford.

'32 Fords are beautiful and all, but I liken them to the song "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin. I am a huge Zeppelin fan, and Stairway is a great song, but after your hear it for the millionth time, it starts to get really rubbed into the ground, overdone, s****-fed, and un-listenable. I feel the same way about '55-'57 Chevys and '69 Camaros. So I'll let you fellas fight over the cookie cutters and I'll take a road less traveled.:D

But then again, what do I know?....., I like Studebakers.

I'd keep lookin, there are better deals out there for $5k let alone 12 to 15! I picked up my 30 hudson coupe and a roadster and a wack of parts for $1000.00! Granted it's not a 32 ford of any kind but it aint gotta be a 32 to be cool! Just my 2 cents worth! I ain't knockin 32's , my dream car is deuce 5 window!

What is the worth of the '32 3 window body pictured - to comparing '32 Fords to Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven?
