To much to do in a couple of days. Sun records aka Memphis recording studio, Beale st., BBQ places all over to eat at , and of course GRACELAND!!!!! Also the riverwalk is pretty cool. I am ready to go back again. Walker Radiators is right beside Sun records also.
Graceland is a no brainer but don't forget the Elvis car museum across the street. Some cool stories to go along with the cars.
Just went to Walker Radiator last week to have a radiator built and was pleasantly surprised to find them RIGHT beside Sun Records. And you've got to check out their neon sign. By all means, take the Sun Records tour. Try to get the blonde girl (well, mid-20's) with the Honky Tonk Angel tattoo across her chest. She gives an absolutely fantastic tour (and I'm an old fart cynic)-knowledgeable, enthusiastic, etc. Stay away from Beale Street- a tourist trap waste of your time-everything is conjured up, packaged, and produced for selling. By the time I did those three things, the day was shot. Downtown Memphis is interesting to drive around in and is very uncrowded, even at noon. Hell, I stopped in the middle of the street several times to shoot pics of signs. A fair amount of neon around. If you're into music, there is a record shop called Shangrila Records on Madison Avenue (1916-east of downtown a mile or two). It is your dad's record shop-well, no papers, incense, etc. but lots of music from all eras.
Autozone Park is the "Crown Jewel of Minor League Baseball" according to Baseball America. Unfortunately the Memphis Redbirds are on the road, but the ballpark is still something cool to see at 3rd/Union.
Beale Street. Rendezvous BBQ in the alley, BB King's club, find secure parking area. Watch the ducks in the Peabody Hotel. West Memphis--Riverside Speedway dirt track. South of Memphis on Hwy 61, casinos at Tunica. Wherever you go, think security.
These are straight from my Memphis Buddy... Rendezvous BBQ Interstate BBQ on 3rd Street (BBQ Spaghetti) Gus's Fried Chicken 310 South Front Street Picadilly's on Elvis Presley Blvd
That was my list..... minus one. - Platinum Plus - JH FWIW - Graceland is nothing more than the world's longest running funeral.
Guess I'll have time to eat at the Rendezvous & Gus's next time. Obviously, I had nothing to do with Platinum's demise. JH
Times do change. When I was in the Navy satationed at Millington NATTC for school, 1965-66. we were restricted from even going to Beale St.. Now it's a tourist trap. Or so it sounds.
do hit beale street, no matter what they say. yes it is a tourist trap, but it is still full of history, and you never know who you may see. if you know nothing about memphis, do the rock and roll bus tour you will see all the cool stuff. see amtrak station, eat breakfast at the arcade resturaunt. charlie vargas Rendezvous, best dry rubbed ribs in the world. sun studio tour. stax tour. if some one asks you where you from, say memphis. dont wander around at night. and dont skateboard, beleive me, i know. __________________

Isn't the Belle still in refurbishment out of state? If she's back I'll be mad that I missed her. I was there for 10 days ending this past weekend. My folks still live down there...and I will be too, again SOON
