Tech: Mounting an alt. on an early Nailhead

    I couldn't find any alternator mounting brackets/kits for an early Nailhead so here's what I did...

    Removed and ground smooth the front tab from the stock generator bracket. Cut a 4" long piece of 1" wide 1/4" thick steel and drilled two holes that lined up with the pre-existing holes.

    Next up was a couple of mounting tabs. I used the same 1" wide 1/4"
    thick material.

    Tacked together...

    The corners of the tabs hit the alt. body so I rounded them off and welded it up.

    The original upper mount/adjuster fit fine with an added washer or two. The belt tracks great and it's realllllllly really solid so it works for me :D

    Looks good. Did something like that on my 322. Does your car have an amp gauge? Mine works kind of strange since the alt conversion?

    Thanks rhew5r. Yep, still running the stock amp gauge and it seems to be working fine. How is it acting strange?
