I will be curious to hear advice from others- I have a 63 Meteor (Fairlane platform) and have not found anything. Been planning on cutting the front coils and using blocks in the back but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Just did my wifes '64 Falcon. reversed the rear main leafs, and cut a coil and a half out of the front. Cost, $0.00.

  6. Nice freaking ride!

  7. for the front try pst.com 2" lowered springs that keep the same firm ride, for the rear some getting lower springs and maybe a lowring block.
search for the falcons done right thread, there a lot of good info there that crosses over to the Fairlane crowd.

2 inchs on that body style seems like a small gain ,2 1/2 spindels and 2 inch coils would be pretty sexy

Falcons and Fairlanes are completely diffetrent cars. The 62 -65 Fairlane stuff is all unique. The springs are huge. They are easy to cut, around here the bottom rung sits in a puddle in the upper arm and often breaks a coil off. I just cut it even and cut the other side to match. It doesn't lower it much. You probably need to cut 1 1/2 coils or more. Cut them off the bottom, the top of the spring is flat.

The rear leaf springs have a bolt-on bracket for the front mount. You could make a new front bracket that puts the spring closer to the floor but i find taking out a couple of the short leafs will usually do. You can also get a thicker flat leaf made up and use it with the original main leaf and get rid of all the others. Better than ising lowering blocks which make for wheelhop.

I had a local shop align it, and he didn't mention any problems. The Shelby mod that someone else mentioned is more for improving handling, and from what I understand doesn't lower the car that much. To reverse the rear main leaf I made a homemade press with some square stock and a bottle jack. Basically you remove the main leaf from the pack, and work it back and forth throught the press, applying pressure, until it's bent the other way, reversing the eyes. This is my new favorite process, because I hate lowering blocks, and wheel hop. There's a good tech piece on the process here in the tech archives. This car is pretty much as low as you can go without getting into major mods, like raising the driveshaft tunnel.

I used Falcon stuff in mine 67-69 not sure if its the same for you guys in the states but anyway, Falcon disc brake stubs give 1/2 inch in the front then 2 coils out of the springs. Be carefull removing these springs they are about 2 foot long and like to let go, dont use cheap spring clamps. For the rear I used falcon springs and shackles the falcon springs are wider and use shorter shackles but you do need to narrow up the front bush so the spring fits the hanger locator in the front. Hope that helps, but again beware of the front springs.

For the front I basically copied what this guy did:

    http://6263meteor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=hotrod&action=display&thread=60

Only difference is I used Slam Specialties RE-6 Bags instead of the firestones mainly so I could avoid the clearence issues he was having.

For the rear I did Air Over Leaf with 3 inch blocks.

Bagging these cars is pretty straight forward. Just a little fabrication on brackets and such. We bagged my 64' Wagon 12 years ago, and have never had a problem. Car aligns great and does not wear tires.

I checked that link above on the Comet site. That gave me an easy idea for the shock bracket. Nice to see how others have done it. I did the same thing he did for the mounting cups.

Kustom64ford is that your your ride height or is that when she is all aired out? Looks good btw.

That is pretty close to aired out. The steering cylinder lays on the ground in the front. Had to raise the driveline tunnel in the rear as well to get it low enough. The bags are mounted in place of the front springs and we just relocated the front shocks. Not running any dropped spindles. I removed a couple of rear leafs as well as adding a 3 inch block. I have never had any trouble with running blocks, but have heard of others who have. Car has about 7-8 inches of adjustment. I used 2600lb double convoluted bags up front and 1500lb cylindrical bags in the rear. Ride is better than stock.

Inzane - Did you make your cups offset like the ones on the meteor board ?

Also - did you weld your upper bag cup to the factory cup ? [ the one with 2 bolts that bolts in ]
