i found a 55 chevy 210 4 door for sale for 5000. i think it's too good to be true. what can i do to ***ure myself. i was trying to find out if it was stolen and i cant find anything on it. i know it's not a 2 door and it has a 6 cylinder with 3 on the tree. so the value shouldn't be high but it looks really good. i haven't seen another for sale under 8000. what do ya'll think.
Looks like a very good deal but not a stolen deal. Buy it if you like it. It's something you'll be able to get your money back if you ever tire of it.
Judging by the pictures that's a really nice car. I'd start out with a lower offer, maybe $3500, see if they bite, then go from there. I don't think the price is out of reason with what I see. Be sure to check in the trunk corners, the bottoms of the doors, the sill plates, and under the hood by the cowl for rust... Good luck!
Just go over it for cancer, look at the area below the windshiel and rear window, use a magnet (or get a "bondo magnet"), check the rockers out too...you know...just check it all out for rust in every place you can think of...by checking it out, I mean using a more than just your eye. If it's a decent solid car, 5K is a good buy.
run the vin tag that is located on the drivrs side window post. The price is ok but check under the car for rust on the floor braces and floor also check the trunk area. If it is rusty it can eat up alot of money very fast unless you are capable of the repairs yourself.
If you have to think about it beyond figuring out where the money will come from, p***...especially if your decision depends upon other people's input. Buy the car that turns YOU on...and don't worry about what anybody else thinks. Just my $.02 - hope it helps.
Looks good and if it is priced to your liking then you should be happy. But I think it is pretty high for a 4 door in Al.I would think it should be more like half that.I personally would keep looking. But thats my opinion.
huh!!!!!!!! you can find a running 55 4 door in the united states for $2500. i haven't seen that in years. in alabama?
If it runs , drives decent and stops it's worth it. Go over the car very carefully so you don't end up sorry you got it. To add to what to look for Check the rear wheel wells on the outside up to the beltline trim area. They were sealed on the inside at the factory using rubber that collects everything and rots them out there and shows up on the outside looking like a half circle. They are a fun car but after bringing mine up from the frame out,I doubt I'd get involved again to that extent
The reason its 5000 is because its a 4 door. If it was a 2 door it would be double that. Alot of people are getting desperate for greenbacks and deals are becoming more popular now days. As mentioned already take a good magnet wrapped with a paper towl or something so you dont scratch the paint and check it out really good for rust. Its a southern car but could of been flooded out by a hurrican or something at one time.
$5000 for a four door "MAY" be a deal but definatly not a steal but honestly with antique cars some of you guys might be amazed at how many out there were stolen 20 or 30 or 40 years ago the cowl tags and other vins off salvage wrecks were borrowed and put in place alot of us here could own stolen cars of years past and not have a clue it may be way more common than some may think
Well, from my experience, the cars I have seen for sale here in Alabama aren't nearly as expensive as those in other areas. There was a completely restored 56 4 door here this past summer for 6k and it sat there for several months before it disappeared.I just sold a 150 2 door post body last summer for $700.Granted,it needed floors and rockers, but it was complete except the drivetrain with lots of extra parts.I was glad to get that for it because I tried to sell it for a long time.I am a cheap guy and look for a long time before I buy,but maybe things have changed.I paid 900 bucks for my avatar and thought it was too much. But I put 10k in it since then. I haven't bought a car in a couple of years,so yeah, maybe I am out of touch. But that is still my opinion and I will stick with it.
Check it for bondo, bad rust repairs etc, etc. If it's solid and what you want then it's a good price.
Before buying my current 55 2dr, I saw an ad for a 55 2dr post body. It was stripped, just a frame and basic shell, no gl***, no interior, no front fenders, no trunk lid, no dash. I called and the guy wanted $2,000. I said, I'll come look at it. It was 50 mi from me. I got in the truck and was hooking up the trailer when the guy called me back and said, nevermind, a guy just walked up and gave me $2,000 it's sold. Your car is worth the $5,000 I would say. Up to you. Lippy
Put it up on a lift where you can really get a ood look at the underside. If you dont know what to look fo pay a body man to inspect it. If your not shure keep your money another deal will come along. OldWolf
The most important places to check for rust on these is in the rear door jamb dogleg and around the rear wheel well in the trunk. They are also prone to rust over the headlights and in the inner rocker panels. Those would be the places I'd check out first. I love these cars, but I'll have to agree with everyone else that for $5K this car needs to be nice. I can already see that it needs some WWW's and rechromed bumpers, maybe hubcaps if the guy doesn't have them. If that's all it needs I'd say it was an OK price. If you watch eBay there are plenty of running 4 door tri-5's in that price range selling, that's why unless this car is exceptionally clean other than the things I've mentioned, I don't think it's a too good to be true deal.
It's a 6cyl stick 4dr. To some it's kool. To some a 6 is the way to go. Here on the HAMB it's "build what you like". In the rest of the world it's the cheapest low-end tri5 and the least desirable. Yes it's an old car, nostalgic, probably runs and drives, maybe what YOU want. I don't think it's a too good to be true deal either. 2dr 150 or 210, maybe close but still...
IMO- alot of money for a more door car- but I'm a 2 door kinda guy. Is it what YOU want? I've owned a bunch of tri-fives & yes- 2 doors are getting pricey- too pricey for many. But if you want to play, you gotta pay. If a 4 door is what U want, go for it. If you wanted a 2 door & are settling for more doors- p***. Check for rust in all the familiar places & if you don't know where to look for rust, take someone along who knows these cars. Remember- a 4 door costs the same to build a a 2 door.
If those two ******* back dors are going to offend you every time you look at it, don't buy it. If you think the car is a good deal and you like it, by all means, pick it up. Personally, I think it looks like a real nice car. Pictures often (most of the time) lie, but it looks good to me. I'll second what Steves32 said, <TABLE cl***=tborder id=post3996222 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=6 width="100%" align=center border=0><TBODY><TR vAlign=top><TD cl***=alt1 id=td_post_3996222 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #e5e5e5 1px solid">"Remember- a 4 door costs the same to build a a 2 door." <!-- / message --></TD></TR><TR><TD cl***=alt2 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #e5e5e5 1px solid; BORDER-TOP: #e5e5e5 0px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #e5e5e5 1px solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: #e5e5e5 1px solid"> </TD><TD cl***=alt1 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #e5e5e5 1px solid; BORDER-TOP: #e5e5e5 0px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #e5e5e5 0px solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: #e5e5e5 1px solid" align=right><!-- controls --></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
Make sure the body supports are solid. All that thing needs is a set of split pipes and about 3" of at***ude adjustment and drive it.
Might be a good candidate for a 4dr to 2dr conversion. There have been a couple of threads on this so a search should turn something up. Frank
It's a parts car. It's worth whatever a front clip and steering wheel is going for to bolt onto a worth-something 2 door.
thanks all i decided to p*** on it for now. i would love a 2 door, maybe later. it did run and drive nicely though.
