It was hot and windy today and I took the old 31 "rpu" out for a spin and stopped to take some new photos without all the silly chicken coops and signs that I use in parades. These new photos just show it in it's everyday working clothes. A nice clean 31 roadster that was cut and hacked into a farm pickup truck many moons ago. Owned by the same family since new until this summer. As you know, it was common to convert an obsolete car into a farm truck to get a cheaper license tag as well as more gas and tire rations during WWII. And quite possibly, there was a shortage of trucks or money to buy them so people got by the best way they knew how. They CUSTOMIZED something in their own shop. Here are some photos.<center>

Here are more photos and notice how ripe the wheat is getting in the background. June hot wind means harvest time is near....(but I am not a farmer anymore, just an observer). <center>

Impressive that you've left the conversion. I'd be tempted to return it to roadster state but it really should be preserved as it represents a segment of American history. My hat's off to you.

Thanks, I had a visitor from out of state last week who said "why don't you let me take that home and restore it to original for you?" and I said "why, so it can look just like every other perfect restored Model A ?" "It will get more attention just like it is." Most everyone (except him) likes it so far that has seen it. I like the old black patina myself.

Soooo, this is why decklids for A's are hard to find? They were lying around after this conversion and then, they were s****ped out as part of the war effort? Nice looking jitney, I wouldn't change a thing !!

    PS. Got a '29 decklid?:)

Looking at the photo's of your 'truckster' in that setting is like a time warp only in color..
If car's could speak i'd bet that 'Ol girl could keep us interested for a long, long time.

One can almost see "Jobe" from the "G****s of Wrath" behind the wheel.

My only plans are to get me a galvanized stock tank full of ice and watermelons and feed the hungry m***es at some event for free. "just for the fun of it" like my pal Hellraiser would say....
