Hello everyone! Dad and I are in the process of restoring 2 1960 Impalas, one will be totally custom, the other will be left as original as possible. Lots of work, lots of fun. I'm looking forward to learning a lot here on the HAMB. I'll be putting up a building (it rains a lot here in the sunshine state) and plan to purchase a lift so we can work on the cars...Any suggestions or advice on what kind of lift to buy or not to buy? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the HAMB, Cindy. Hope your IMP's go well. If you only have room for one lift-- I would get a drive on that incorporates jackstands when removing wheels. If you have room {and money!} for two--then get an arm lift and a drive on. Alot of the drive on lifts are portable and while not EASY to move they can be moved around the shop when necessary--very handy!
What is in your babies--283, 327?? Automatics or standard??

thanks for the welcome 214Gearjammer and the info! The one baby is an original 283 automatic and the other (the custom, originally a 348) is indeed a 327 it is also an automatic. When my Dad was younger he had a new, beautiful black '60 with a 348 and a close ratio 3 speed transmission. He used to have to drive over an hour to get to work (one way) He said that car was FAST it would go 70 in second gear. He wasn't ever late! Thanks again for the welcome and advice.

Welcome Cindy. Good luck with your projects. I'm from the Hudson/Spring Hill area. Are you into that whole rattlesnake thing? Never been to it but I heard it's "something else"! Have fun, this is a great place to share and get knowledge and experiences. Lots of good like minded people on here. Take care!

No, Mike I am not a fan of rattlesnakes ! I haven't ever been to the Rattlesnake festival (in fact I try to stay as far away from that as possible!) I have been to the car show up there in Springhill at the chic filet on route 50. Thanks for the welcome!

Lucky him--he had one of the "dependable" 348s! I had one in school and worked on it all week hoping in would last through a weekend of cruising. ( Never Did!! ) Koolest looking heads/valve covers ever but a real pain to keep together for me!
Since you are new to the HAMB, I want to encourage you to use the search feature for ongoing projects to keep you motivated! There is an absolutely awesome thread called 29 Ford Roadster PU started by a young lady in Seattle-her handle is Psycho666-that has been ongoing for awhile and is truly inspirational to follow. You should be able to find it easily enuff...and I would also echo what that Hamber told you about GarageJournal.com--they got great ideas!
    GOOD LUCK!

Try using the "search feature at the top of the page", (above ground lift). You'll find all you need there to make a good choice, there's a lot of used equipment out there available at good prices. Just make sure the concrete is thick enough, and that the safety stops and cables at right, not too complicated to install. Welcome to the HAMB girl!
