I've had a dual action sander for a few years, but as most are its air-powered. Well, my big air compressor quit and I'm left with only my little one which does not have enough cfm's to constantly run the DA sander....

Does anyone know where I can buy an electric powered DA sander?

    Thanks

Either Lowe's or Home Depot may have one. Bought this one many years ago at Home Depot. (the vacuum cover is home made):) :D

I've got a DeWalt that uses 5" disc with velcro backing, the disc have the holes in them to go into a small bag on the end of the sander that helps from it getting clogged up. Works real nice.

Not as much movement as a regular d/a though. Kinda in between a da and orbital sander

How much $$$$$$$ would it take to get that big air comp going?

I just picked up one of the porter cable DA sanders,I'm happy with its performance so far,it has variable speed which is useful also.

Bosch makes a pretty decent one. It takes a 5" hookit pad and I think it's around $100.

porter cable, dewalt, craftsman, delta, ryobi, black n decker... all make a random orbital sander (what most of em are called when talkin electric "woodworking" tools)

keep away from the low end ones... the motors dont last long with real agressive sanding and extended use times. another thing to stay away from is the add-on velcro pads that some of the mid range sanders have. they come from the manufacturor with a flat pad made for PSA backed abrasive discs. the heat generated by sanding melts the velcro and gums up the surface of the sander pad.
another thing to stay away from is the sander pads that have holes in them and a shop vac port to collect dust. they dont work worth ****. make one like 51 merc ct did. you'll be happy in the long run

the porter cable d/a is available with a standard 6'' pad, uses regular self-stick discs. i've had mine for years, no need to run a monster compressor just for sanding. waaaay quieter, too...

The Porter Cable electric D/A is rugged and a good value. I've been using one since 2001. Here are some of the things I've sanded with it:

The only trouble I've had with the Porter Cable D/A was when the brushes started to arc after being contaminated by powderized steel.

i picked up one from menards for like $30? bucks, uses the 5'' disks with holes and a bag on it for catching the dust, not as nice as a air d/a but it worked just fine on my olds, and has adjustable speed
