Hello, I finally posted some pics of my 1932 ford 5 window. hope you like it... if not be gentle An old stock car body...when I got, the deck lid had about 20 lbs of lead and the doors were welded shut. Now it is getting closer for paint. All original stell fenders and an original set of garnish mouldings. Not too bad for a 22 year old huh? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/a...p?albumid=5190 brandon
Good grief are those the before pics in the lower left corner ?? You've come along way thats some nice work to bring it back from there
yep..it was a basket case, but all i could afford... a lot of flat steel, oxy/acetaline torch, a 25 year old body hammer and the need to see progress daily are all a pretty good combo to bring even the most wrinkled tin back to life. thanks for the kind words brandon
That 25 year old hammer obviously possessed lots of experience. Glad you were able to "tap" into it. Great job!
Your work and skills have surp***ed 50% of the people here. Including me. Now young punk, that don't make you superman. So make sure that big head fits in that coupe. Good Job.
Thanks everyone, I have more pics somewhere of the actual bodywork, which I will post when I find them. I still have seems to blend and my rear body alignment is off. The rear fenders are not even over the tires, so I am going to make some measurements from side to side and "re-set" the inner structure. I had to fab the rear quarters with pieces from the old body and some that I have found at swaps and ebay. The old racers bobbed and welder the fenders above the beauty lines, so I was lucky that they were appox. 70% in tact and safe under the 2nd layer. This car will eventually go back down to the bare steel and have the aviator wax/oiled look to it (the entire car). I haver been working on my lead skills and has finished the filled top...and will do a lead p*** on the door jambs and driver cowl bottom. having the body in bare steel will allow me to make it flawless someday for paint. I am pushing to get this car gl***ed and wired for the Pueblo NSRA. Anyone know anyone producing an affordable set of gl***?
Superb work man, you outta be reallly proud showing its humble beginings. Good for you man, excellent!
Hey awesome job! I had a pretty rough 32 5w as well.. Mine was missing the entire back half (all of the quarter panels ). Here it is now, oh and I'm 25 years old
If you guys don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for a rough 32? Where does one find a rough 32? Just luck? I wouldn't mind resurrecting an old dirt car.
Well to be honest I paid 6000 three years ago for a shell. To be more specific, a pretty tattered shell. But it all depends on the level of commitment that you plan to spend on it. It was all I could afford. I got mine from a failed ebay deal, and made an offer. Today 32 bodies have come down in price, as you can get a really nice body at Hershey for 14 to 15 k. But like you guess it, it's mainly luck. The hardest part for me thus far has been finding the fenders, garnish mouldings, and patch panels for a five window. This is the hard part, as no one is making repop quarters, drip rail, cowl internals, beauty lines etc... Hope that answers your question... Brandon
I bought mine for 1500 bucks 2 years ago from a guy about 75 miles away. Luck is a huge part of it. I had to use 32 roadster quarters from brookville to complete my body.
Nice work and keep a picture book of your progress it helps to remember where it came from to where it is now. It is good to see the younger generation keeping the tradition alive.
Hey 4tford, I have been getting more organized with a picture book. I'm glad I have them all at least printed, as my computer crashed and I lost the saved copies of like 20 or so. I wish more of my generation would participate. It is hard with the hobby/sport being so darned expensive!
Motor Started! Gl*** in, wiring done, on the road! Here is an updated video of the motor starting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wmMgn5XfLM
You are giving that coupe a second life thats for sure. Great job. You got something to be proud of there.
Just an Update... ...the 32 came to life yesterday! I drove it around my neighborhood yesterday, and I must say it tracked and rode wonderfully right down the road! I just ordered some FatMat and will be doing the insulation on the entire car this week. At idle i can hardly hear myself think...so I hope this will help. After that I will put in a pretty sweet sound system! I think that will be all I can do before NSRA in 21 days at Pueblo! If anybody recognizes the car Say hello!
CONGRATULATIONS---There is only one first time ride in your car and it's a great feeling! Heck-I've had a lot of cars that the first ride was the last ride! Don't think that will be the case with you. ENJOY IT!
