I've replaced all of my fuel system from the tank to the carb, upgraded to stainless steel lines, and have rebuilt my carb. (Holley 1 Barrel model 1940) It has also gotten a new distributor in the past few weeks. The engine is good and has been majorly rebuilt by someone that knows what they are doing not to long ago in the past.
What I have to do is spray ether in the carb, or gas, and then choke the motor to get it started then I have to stay on the gas to get it, and keep it running. I thought gas may not be getting to it, but you can see that it is. The carb doesn't have a vent valve arm on it. When I took the hose that comes to the carb from the vaccum advance, it didn't have hardly an air coming to it. The Distributor is in time and going good, BUT I have made all the measurments and adjustments that I can with it in its current running condition. I know its getting the bang juice but is ain't sucking. Anyone got any recommendations or ideas?

Alright, I've done some trouble shooting as much as I can. and I have a few questions for anyone out there: 1) would an early 63 (made in 62) in line 6 have a PCV Valve on it. I can't seem to find it but have read of it being in a weird spot. 2) I know it's getting too much fuel and not enough air. Would that mean its the lack of the vent valve arm, or could it be in the Vaccum Advance?
Sorry again that my FNG-ness is showing here and that I'm as thick as a brick sometimes when it comes to these carbs and all, but any help would be appreciated.

The 63 should have a road draft tube and a breather in the valve cover cap. I sounds like you have a vacuum leak under the carb. The 144,170,and 200 have different size carbs and spacers. The gaskets are very different and could have been mixed up during the re-build this would cause the symptoms you have. Take the carb. off and inspect all of the sealing surfaces. Send a PM if you have any questions.

on my 6 cyl i went with the holly weber carb, with adapter and it cured lots of problems, plus boosted pwr, and mpg. Go to ford six.com, and your problem will be addresed many times. luck to you.

Also check the "freeze plugs" in the ends of the intake manifold for leaking vacuum..
