ok i changed bolt pattern from 5 on 4.5 to 5 0n 4.75. i changed the rotors and bearings yesterday to mount my rims and tires. The bearing will go all the way on, but when i put on the washer and nut there is a space between the bearing and washer about an 1/8inch. the fix is simple, i think. can i just double the washers on each side or will this cause a problem??? thank you in advance tom
anyone?? hey you with the feet over there help me out? or is this a dumb question and the answer is obvious???
Somethings not right. If you changed the rotors for different bolt pattern and are using the same brand rotor the washer and nut should fit. The nut needs to be tightened to pre-load the bearings, then backed off enough to be able to slip the cotter pin in. If ther'es a 1/8" gap between the washer and the bearing the bearing won't be able to be tightened to pre-load. Adding an extra washer won't solve that, unless I'm not understanding what your saying. The long and short of it is that if the only thing different is the bolt pattern, it should go back together like it was before.
almost sounds like the bearing cup is not all the way in? You are talking bout the outer bearing right?
The washer is not for this rotor/spindle combination? Or the bearings are not for this rotor? Hope this helps Peter
no pictures sorry. i got the bearings from speedway they said they are the right bearings for the application. i think that the nut just ran out of thread.
oh im using a magnum disk brake kit with 37-41 spindles. is there a spacer that was supposed to come with the kit or?? the rotors are 78 camaro
Did the spindle run out of thread? Really pictures would be a big help so we can tell what'd going on. This stuff is kind of critical for safety....
yea, the spidle ran out of thread. i really wish i had pictures, my sister was there with her camera taking pictures of the car so i can post them later on today and i for got to take a picture.
If the spindle ran out of thread you could solve the problem with a spacer or extra washer, but I would thread it down 1/4 inch or so rather than use an extra washer. Also make sure your caliper is still going to mount O K, it should but be sure,1/8th inch or so should'nt make any difference to the mounting being they float.
Im not positive cause its been awhile ago but I think there might be a spacer or bearing adapter the goes on the spindle (inboard side) to use GM rotors on that kit
the bearing adapter is on the spindle, i pressed those in. i think the extra washer might work, but i thought id ask on here first.
It goes between the castle nut and the washer, or if it has to it can go between the outside bearing and washer.
The spacer goes on the spindle then the rotor is installed. The spacer doesn't go on after the rotor between it and the nut.
