So Jivebomber and I took his 29 on up to BP this past weekend. It was nice to meet a few HAMBers up there and see some old HAMB faces too. LakesModified and Slazzen had some nice rides just to name a couple. Pics can be found here: BP 2004 Sorry, only old skool browsing for me. Ain't got no fancy Fotki thing. Mike
Hey..!! that's me (in the black shirt) talking to Shortbus behind Jay's car..!! that was right after I got there too....
Very interesting stuff! The Pat Lash roadster looks great! I really hope to see some of the cars from your pics at the CHRR or the Primer Nats! FD
Great pictures. now i see the ones i missed. how did that happen??.had a great time and met a number HAMB'ers at the same time, that one only see's their post's , but now i get to put a face on them. did you have to post that many pictures of my rusty modified tho? for tho's who did not attend the races that night, you really missed some good racing. can't beleive i got to see 120 rigs race in one nite. what a great cross section of race vehicles. the sprinters and the dwarf cars were the best tho. well worth the 12 hour trip to get there. now the motel was a different story tho.
[ QUOTE ] did you have to post that many pictures of my rusty modified tho? [/ QUOTE ] Hey Lakes, Your modified was one of my favorite rides at the show. Nothing cookie cutter about it: rare speed equipment, rare wheel setup, the tube frame, the con-rods used for headlight mounts, etc... And you drove it 12 hours to get to BP.
I'd like to hear about the radiator you have cooling the flathead in that modified! It looks TINY? Is the whole thing actually inside that shell or does it extend below? Anything special done to the rest of the cooling system (pumps, thermostats, etc.) and what temp does it run at? Do you have to shut it down if you hit traffic? Rad car by the way.
Grimlok: glad to hear you like it. the rad. extends below the shell, to past the bottom of the frame. i run 8ba stock pumps with no modifications. it holds over 3 gal. it cools great, even in traffic.i use 160 degree thermostats. at Bonneville in over 100 degrees, it worked fine for crusing around.it usually ran around 190 to 200 degrees. i have yet to have it boil over, but i do use water wetter, as you know with flat motors, one needs all the help you can get. the heads on it are thicker than the ones you see today. they are around 3 1/2" thick. yeh, 12 hours to Billetproof in it?. i had to cheat, same as in the good old days, they were on trailers. ****, if i had to drive it that far, i'd still be in the hospital . they would need a forklift to get me out, as i'd never be able to walk again. after 2 back operations and needing a 3 third one, i'd really be in bad shape and still sittin in it, as there would be no way i could get out. it's a great short trip modified, but that's it.
[ QUOTE ] Best car there.... [/ QUOTE ] These Legend cars are what raced that night at the dirt-track next door. They look like a blast to drive.
i tried asking some questions about his car,and he gave me the high-hat...i don't know if he was being a jerk intentionally, maybe he was having a bad day....i thought it was neat regardless.
