Went to see a man about a car: The Great American Road Trip--2289 miles

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Speedrome, Jun 2, 2009.

  1. WOW! Bart you have been busy! Did you see any sign of Jelly's old #99 there?

  2. This is what I love about the HAMB. Open a thread about a road trip, and stumble on info and photos of Jelly. While I was working at Speedway and putting together the Swamp Rat 33 Streamliner for Garlits in the 80's, it was Jelly who built the front axle (12" center to center on teh kink pins) and a couple other bits for #33. What a great guy, but over the years I've lost contact with him. To be sure I'll be calling him in the morning.

The 2 Oldsmobile fastbacks out back were going to be his tow car and race car for a trip to Bonneville. He very much wanted to go 200 (who doesn't), but it looks like that project nevre got started.

Thanks for the great thread. Road trip journelists Denise and Malcom better watch out.

That is so funny because I read Malcom's stories and made a point of going up and introducing myself at the Round Up this year.

And for Denise, I went back to a old "how to" thread and learned from her on the best way to post a story/thread.

    They are the best!

    Bart,

Awesome pics and story. I especially like the Offys just sitting in the floor... Hope to see you at another vintage "race" soon.

Wow Bart. Great adventure!!! I think seeing all those Offy engines would have made me freak out trying to figure out how one of them could wind up in the trunk of my car on the ride back home with me! hahaha!

    Thanks for posting
