Of all place you'd expect to find hot rod merchandise, Japan is probably the least likely. Well, I was on a trip to Kyoto this weekend, and as I was trekking my way up a narrow market street of shops I stumbled upon an Americana type tourist trap with all kinds of memorabilia from the states. I had to laugh at this license plate. The Japanese people are amazing, but sometimes, try as you might, you just didn't get it quite right... I snapped this photo before the shop owner yelled at me for taking pictures. Anyway, thought you guys would get a kick out of it.
Someone was telling me of a shirt from there that said "FRIED SNOWSHOES". I have a STAR WARS shirt with all the lettering written in japanese, I hope it says star wars on it.
Thats why I don't dance to La Bamba or The Macaraina,,,, I figure it is spanish for "look at the fat white guy dancing like a circus bear".
i love reading the labels on cheap flea market stuff from overseas. it never makes sense, a 3 year old could do better, lol
Chances are it was made by a 2 year old.....but the good news is that by 3 they should have the whole production process nailed!
Thats it!! theres the proof for all the Volkswagen guys - beetles are hotrods. You should have bought it.
you guys need to check out http://www.engrish.com/ it will blow your mind. I can spend hours on there. It never ceases to amaze me the crazy translations that make absolutely no sense. Is it really hard to find someone who can translate properly? I think Japanese people just love wearing crap with english on it even though what it says is extremely offensive.
Then look at this site: http://www.hanzismatter.com/2004_12_01_archive.html I keep that bookmarked right next to "Engrish"...it attempts to translate the random. deformed characters and various aspects of Japanese and Chinese culture used in tattoos made by and on people who haven't a clue...the bizarre results are a bit harder to remove than T-shirts!
Here's the unhappy result of having someone literate look at a Chines tattoo... " Roddy from Chinese Forums tipped me about an user "insanejester" on his forum wanting to get a Chinese tattoo for his 18th birthday. The photo shown above is what the young man finally got. It means "idiot". 呆 = dull; dull-minded, simple, stupid 子 = offspring, child; fruit, seed of; 1st terrestrial branch "
At one of the japanese flea Markets they had a girls shirt with big white writing on it that said "RAPE ME". Too classic! I wonder how a judge would make a verdict on a case like that?
Von Moldy, I could only wish I had the time that you do haha I won't ask HOW you found that site...good stuff nonetheless...
Well, I was going to buy a couple, but then I couldn't figure out how many thousands of yen equals ten bucks!
