  1. Rare or not its E-Bay baby. Put some sweat in bag. Get a bidding war started and off it goes. Swooosh.

  2. I was selling vintage car parts at a swap meet on the weekend. A guy really needed a pair of 65 Buick hardtop wing windows and I let him talk me down to $30.00 for the pair. He then set them down and said I,ll be back later. By the time he did come back they were packed away on the trailer and I was getting ready to leave. I want those windows now...Not a ****in chance I replied. You should have bought them when you were holding them in your hands.Snooze and lose....

i am from oklahoma, grew up in okmulgee, i know sonny and paulette all too well, and um, dont get me started! its terrible when a persons' reputation preceeds them like that! seems that no matter where you go, who you talk to, they have a bad sonny story, lol.... they are somethin else, arent they? my boss used to lease from the same landlord that sonny did, and bein from a small town, i could tell you sonny stories to keep you interested for weeks!

Once you get past the used part it's probably not too bad.

If those parts were still easily accessible, would you have sold them to him?

19Fordy - we get that at Spring/Fall Carlisle all the time. Guy jerks you around for a price, you finally agree, and he says he'll be back. Even if they are still on the table when he returns, the price will STAND FIRM at my price - I don't care if I get nothing for them. I would even throw them out into the aisle and do a jig on them before he got them. PERIOD. Idiots ....

But for every one of those you get 20 real nice folks, you talk business, agree on a price and they buy.

It's just that 1 in 20 idiot you remember more often than not!!!

see, and in my case. it wasnt even a haggling issue, i was willing to pay the price he named...it was just poor execution on his part, and he should not have offered to hold em if he didnt intend to...ya know? these swap meet situations are different, and on those, im right there with ya...been there too many times, but i have been in constant contact with him about this car i was trying to buy...i didnt just walk away....i just dont understand...(grumble)

Most everything that is a good deal has to be closed quickly. Just the way it is.

I have been in the process of buying something at a swap meet and had people try to hand more money right over the top of me in order to get the part(s) (and I am 6'4")...

I have also been on the selling end with flake buyers that NEVER follow through after driving you nuts. Not saying this is you, but any seller has had the experience and might fall back on that experience when making daily selling decisions, decisions that might be supporting his/her family...

    Call it a lesson learned.

Insist on giving a credit card and paying the extra for immediate insured shipping the next time, rather than allowing transaction to get shelved temporarily.

It looks like these are still available, though over $400 now and rising. Good luck on your search.

And if they meant that much to you and they were such a screeming deal you should have PAID the man.

I am looking for a few very specific pieces for my hardtop, when I find them in my price range I am not going to sit around waiting to include them in my what-if/maybe/might gonna buy more pile.

On several occasions I have bought and paid for pieces and came back for other pieces later.

You are beginning to sound an awful lot like the whiney 20-something generation who thinks everything is someone else's fault. You screwed up and didn't finish the transaction for those specific pieces when you had the chance. That he didn't hold them is truly tough ****, he is not in the storage business (maybe he got tired of spending time and energy on you without seeing any cash). More often than not the second deal is better because they have already seen some cash from you and know that you follow thru.

Next time pull the trigger or put it away.

6/10/09 Go to ebay and put down a maximum offer that cannot be matched -if those pieces are really that hard to find.
