Trying really hard to get my dad's 51 Chevy Business Coupe done before the HAMB Drags, I am moving along quite nicely, but I need some ideas for hinges for the tilt front end. It is the original sheet metal and I am fastening the fenders and hood together and they are kinda heavy, so I would imagine that the hinges would need to be a little more stout than ones for a fibergl*** one piece front end.

Anyway, if some people could help me out with some pics of the hinges they made for their front ends I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Might get some pics posted soon....if anyone is interested.....

    Thanks in advance!

I used a set of door hinges off a 70 chevy PU for my tilt.
They seemed to hold up pretty good.

    from middle ca.

way back when tilt front ends were popular , we used round tubing & round stock to tilt them . set it up off the frame horns . if your front ***embly is allready to mount (welded up) , set it on & see what you need to build . its pretty straight forward . use cable (soft lay) for straps when tilted ......... good luck ... steve

almost any "HEAVY" hinge will work , but we liked the round stock for ease & strength ...

I did this to one of my 56 Chevy Bracket cars. It was pretty straight forward, and simpe to do, BUT it took two people to tilt it up; one each pulling the fenders out to the side a little before it tilted forward. Used lightweight chains as tilt limiters. Each side used a triangulated, flat stock support, that bolted to a forward point using an existing frame hole. NO front bumper would/could be used. The lower the front mounting is, the easier/better the tilt will be, and the trailing ends of the fenders get clear of the firewall sides faster. The trailing ends of the fenders had big truck type, tilt-the-front-forward, rubber/metal hold downs. NOW, for my advise, don't do it! At speed, air would build up under the front end and "bulge out/lift" by the end of the quarter mile; I even tried tightening up on the hold downs to no avail. I'd just bolt the fenders back on without using the inner fenderwells if it was me, and fab up a lift-off hood. Butch/56sedandelivery.

Oh, and by the way, my nephew and I are putting together a 51 Business Coupe also.
