I have a chance to buy this wagon for next to nothing. It's by my sister's house about 100 miles from me and the owner just wants to get rid of it and a few other cars he has. My question is, what do you guys think about it? Worth buying and building? I'd use it to move people and small parts, like a shop car/cruiser. I saw it about 3 years ago and don't remember if it still has the drivetrain in it or not. I've been asking my sister to ask how much the guy wanted and he finally came around with a price, took 3 years.

Without looking at the interior, I would offer around $500, providing it came with the ***le. It looks like alot of work but man that would be one *****in' ride slammed to the ground with some slick wheels! If you get it, good luck and keep us posted.

  7. Less than $400? You could sell $400 in parts off it in a weekend and still get the going rate at the crusher for the carc***.

I think it is worth less than $400 dollars, especally if it has the ***le. Sounds like the owner wants to get rid of it...offer $200...

I'll take the tailgate if you end up with it and dont want to rebuild it.:D

Even if the floor boards & braces are rotted its like p***ing on a complete rotted 32 roadster. They get harder and harder to come by.

There's got to be lots of reproduction parts avalable for 57 chevs like fenders floorboards etc. I say it's worth saving.

$400 yes, but it is going to take some work to get it on the road. Is the interior jammed full with parts ?

what other cars does the guy have and want to get rid of ?

I think if you feel like you are on the fence enough to ask for opinions here on the HAMB, then your desire for one is not big enough to tackle that much of project, no matter what the price.

If it were me, it would be on my trailer already...

Yeah, I would go for it. I am doing a 4 Door Dodge wagon to use as a long haul cruiser and gear hauler for my photography biz. A good friend has a 2 Door Plymouth wagon and it is a ***** getting in and out of the back seat.

Remember that no matter what you do to it, it wont be worth more than about $25K at the outside when you are done. Do all the work yourself and keep it cheap!

Look at the rockers, the car isn't even rusty. How is that not worth $400? That'd be $2000 here and sold in a weekend.

If I were you, everyone would be looking at pictures of the car in my parking lot on the trailer, and I'd be gloating about what a bargain I got instead of asking if it's worth the effort. Not worth $400? Are you kidding?

not worth it..new gl*** is over $1000,new rubber seals and fuzzies and stuff another grand, interior a couple grand, brakes that need rebuilt plus suspension etc...... if you are looking to put it on the road it is a bad investment...you will be in it way more than it will be worth...now if you are parting it out you may get your money back...but you need a place to park it while it is being stripped...I have almost 10K in mine and can't get $7500 for a nice driver....so since you are looking for a 4 dr wagon ...why not buy one thats is already on the road and save yerself some money and headaches...I've seen stock drivers under $4K that looked great and didn't need EVERYTHING.

Buy it and Sell it for a profit (I have seen worse cars sell for more).

If you are not sure about building it sell it to someone who is. Save that old tin.

Only the original poster can answer his own question, but BrewSir has a strange point of view.

I always wanted a 57 and about 18 years ago, I got one for free and drove it 25 miles home.
It is the same brown and white thats on this thread.

Like BrewSirs it really needed everything you can think of.
I got rid of the 6 and PG, put in a 300 hp 350 crate motor and 350 TH, added power disc brakes and air conditioning and have been driving it all these years.
It still needs paint, upholstery, bodywork, new chrome and all the stuff that BrewSir mentions to make it show quality but show quality for a 4 door???
Thats not my goal, daily driver IS my goal.
Its a great car, gets lots of attention and I'm not afraid it might get scratched or dirty.

There is easily $1,000 in parts there. But I'm not so sure I'd look at it as a builder unless I could check out the floors. If the floors are solid, yeah, build it. If the floors are gone, don't bother with it unless you inclined to part it out to recover your money. Plus hauling it 100 miles one way.

  28. a good wagon rear bumper is kinda nice to have to remove the plate off the trunk of a customized 57

  29. The other question here is what's the story with the Biscayne next to it??
