Converting a polyblock into a hemi isnt just a swap of the heads. you have to take everything apart and switch a few things here and there.lots of drilling and measuring.i saw it done on a plymouth website.just figured that i add that. -ryan
Here's my Plymouth hemi. I bolted some Dodge 241 hemi heads on my Plymouth 259 block, changed the pushrods, and made some headers. Fired right up and worked great. Directly bolted up to the Plymouth intake manifold and water manifold. Richard
I stand by the statement of never say never with Ma Mopar, whether it came from the factory or the dealership or somebody changed it........Weird Mopars pop up from time to time, How many remember you could buy a 64-67 CSS truck that came with a 426 max wedge motor from the Factory, or Hemi powered station wagons with Four speeds........But more than likely it was a poly motor with Dodge Hemi Heads........
As I have owned a '67 CSS truck, the 426 Wedge engine was NOT available in these in '67, nor was a Hemi, but you could get a 383. The 413 and 426W were available in these from '63 - '65, and the 42W was in them for '66. The performance package was called the HPP, or High Performance Package, and was an independent option from the Custome Sports Special, or CSS. The two could be had together, as well. Go to www.cssregistry.com and you will see what is real. There are absolutely NO do***ented factory 426 wagons, period. No big cars (Monaco/Polara/Fury/300) had a 426, either. No factory 426 Hemi cops. No factory early Hemi Plymouth cars. I do agree with your statement about the Poly engine with Hemi heads as the likely engine, though. Can't believe this thread is still alive, but...
I was not quoting exactly more making a point with Mopar never say never...weird **** pops up all the time....dealers cars, promo cars and even proto types that where suppose to be destroyed, like the ball stud hemi....
Um....there have been do***ented special order factory 4 door 426 hemis....almost never say it never happened with Chrysler...keepin' it alive
I personally own a 1959 Dodge D-800 with the original factory engine. It is a 354 Chrysler Hemi and says "Power Giant" on the valve covers. It is a well do***ented fact that the heavy Dodge trucks were available with Chrysler Hemis. In fact they were available a year later in Dodge trucks than they were in Chryslers. V/8
So what about the 1966 Dodge Coronet 4-door w/426 Hemi that Don Garlits has in his museum in Ocala Fla.? He says it was a special order for the FBI. Is it one of the four you are talking about. If so why isn't it considered a cop car?
