some of you may think im retarded....but im just putting this out there....is there any way to somehow hookup a ipod..or something like it to the factory am radio in my 55 ford??? or is the only way to put a different radio in the car? thanks baggs
use the search someone did a ipod install but it think it might have to be fm. my friend someguy on here did a 70's am/fm INSIDE of his '50 merc radio, looks stock and all the ****ons work.
i know if it had fm i could get it to work with a fm modulator...but im not as familiar with the old am setup
This sould work for you. You need to get what is called a line output converter (around $19-30)and you hookup your speaker wires coming out of the radio into this converter but then you need a 4 channel amp for your speakers and then you can get a eq that has an aux input on it and run your ipod to that. Would be easier to buy a different radio or you can buy the amp and an adaptor for the ipod the just tie the ipod to the amp and use your ipods vol. controls.
I used Tayman electric in Florida to convert the AM in my 62 thunderbird to AM/FM with an aux (ipod) input. About two week turnaround and $400 and it looks and sounds great. http://www.taymanelectrical.com/ Also sells a single 6x9 that produces stereo (not great, but good) and fits in the original single speaker location.
AM/FM/CD in the glove box or under the seat . There are some kits you can get to put into a old radio that has AM/FM in it . I see them at the Carsile car shows every year but the guy won't ell me where to get the insides or will sell them to me ! I thought about taking a small hand help AM/FM and putting it into the radio . There is so much room under the dash you can put a remote AM/FM under there . I have a 55 Ford too and the guy that designed the radio for 1955 was an ***hole ! If you find a place to sell the guts to put into a radio let me know !
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=243821&highlight=ipod+your+rod Byp***ing the radio is probably the easiest and cheapest option. When I find an original radio for mine, all Im gonna use is the face plate, knobs, and light.
this is all that i was afraid of...i dont want to lose the factory radio...but i was hoping there was a simple way to byp*** it for a ipod...but i guess i will have to look into gettin the guts changed. i appreciate the input baggs
Realistically you dont have to lose your radio, you just dont have to use it if you use a seperate amp and speakers for your ipod. Im just saying.
Check this place out ! Even has a 55 Ford radio to chance over ! http://www.radiosforoldcars.com/catalogF.htm
This is what you need: http://www.rediscoveradio.com/ It's designed specifically for connecting ipods/mp3 players to an AM radio.
I did a tech on how to add an AUX input to your radio. Check it out: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=300222 Or if you cant do it yourself I charge $75.00 plus shipping to add it to your radio. PM me if you have questions.
Well if you want the "Traditional" Equivillent, buy an under dash record player for your car and shove about 500 records for it in your trunk.
