Well, I need some inspiration and such. It is a bone stocker and needs a major hiarcut! Gimmie some pics! Gotta get this project in my head with different things, espically since I have never cut up a car! Thanks
Just my opinion, but the body on that car is too bulky to look right with a chopped top. I would leave the top as it is and drop the car a bit. Looks like you got a nice score there! I love old Buicks...killer grilles. Enjoy!
I wouldn't even consider chopping the top, I think it looks perfect as t is. Did you grab the model A grille shell?, any more model a parts laying around?
Nice solid looking car. Me and my dad are restoring a '52 Roadmaster right now. We are also parting out a '52 Super that we bought for parts. So if you need anything, let me know and I'll see if I can help. Also, if you decide to shave the stock bumper guards front and/or rear, I would buy them from you since ours are really poor. That black one with the white roof posted above is really clean, I would build this green one very similarly.
Nice 52! I had a 53 about 8 years ago, might have a part or two laying around. I agree with thye others about the top. You have to be carefull and not take too much off the top or it will look odd. I would drop it and drive it.
Just clean it up and adjust the stance to match Anythinggm's above, and you got a cool ride. See the Cool Judge thread if you disagree (!).
unless you have experience chopping quite a few cars don't do it. I hate to see another one ruined. It's not as easy as people would have you believe.
Thanks so far. Those others of y'alls look awesome! The post cars just look a little too bubbly IMO, but when I actually get this thing out and home, I may feel differently. I don't know the last time it has run, so I'm not sure about the engine condition. Anything special on getting a straight 8 running? The guy that had it (a buddy of mine) bought it and messed around with the electrical a little bit and did get all the lights working, incuding the dash and even the radio. I was playing Sinatra when it came on! LOL! What else do I need to "watch out for" on these things? Thanks! And keep the info and pics coming! BTW-the grille shell is just laying there as yard art! LOL, but he is not selling much else. This is his other "main" car, but he's building a hot rod TT truck too, that will have to wait on pics of.
That's a cool ride .. Only thing I'd do is clean it up, get it goin' and shit can the continental kit .. (looks like one to me, maybe not) ..
Gonmad's Buick is a Special, very few parts from a Super or Roadmaster will fit on the Specials. Been there, done that.
I agree also, don't mess with top at all. Lower it then stand back and look at it, you'll like it a lot better.
I sure hope you don't chop it, but if you must, at least have a plan for cutting the glass. I can't believe how many cars are screwed up when people find out that curved glass isn't so easy to cut.
Hey Jimmy, You picked up a very Kool Project! You don't have to chop it to be kool. This is what I would do to her. 1) Stance is everything. Lower it like your wagon. 2) french the headlites & taillights? maybe add '56 Olds. Change the taillights too, I'll come up with some ideas for ya. 3) Change the front & rear bumpers Why? Because its kool to play with minds. 4) Move and / or change the port holes. 5) keep the Merc side chrome. Very kool! 6) Shave front and rear deck 7) You like to drive them (more them most on the HAMB) so replace the motor with a small block make it road worthy 8) The grill is killer. I would just buy some big bullets from Night Rpowlers and add them to the end of the dagmars. Thats it for now....Do you remember the green buick that was at the Stray Kat 500. It was right across from the hotel. Voodoo Jim owns it and its full of tasteful kustom treatment. very class build and its not chopped. I'll try to find a picture. Good luck with the project. Happy Trails, Mick
