Both the doors on my 50 Chevy Coupe sag bad...the hinges and pins seem to be shot. Good news is all the sheet metal around the hinges looks solid. Anyway, long story short, since we have the sheetmetal off for the sub frame, we figured we would fix the problem while the hinges were exposed. So, does anyone reman these? What is my next step? Thanks
You will need to evaluate how worn they are. Typically you can ream them and use an oversize hinge pin. Or you can ream them and then press in bushings to get back to the stock size, and then use a stock pin. Or if they are really toasted you can weld them up and re-drill+ream the hole. Check them for cracks, if their are any you can weld them up now. If any of the mounting holes are elongated you should weld them up and grind/drill/countersink them to get them back to OEM.
Here's a Tech thread I posted a while back... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=244208
I think the Help section might have pins that will work. Will need to be cut off a little. Tri 5's would probably work. Clean the hinge up knock out the pin lift out the bushing tap in new bushing put the hinge back together and knock in the pin.
