sm465, good, bad?

    Looking for a strong manual tranny for my hopped up 292. Had some people tell me to go for a sm465 or the sm420. Let me know if you have any info on em. Thanks.

    It's great if your going 4 whelling or pulling stumps its got a granny low and is really big in size so with the granny low it makes it really like a 3 speed around town

    ^^^What he said, plus they also have a wide ratio between gears, not a performance tranny by any means. On the plus side they are very short:D

    well its going in a 3/4 1950 gmc so no off roading, what would be a good manual street trans that would bolt right up?

    Just a reg. old saginaw 3 or 4spd would be fine you can find them anywhere cheap and strong enough for the v8's so should work behind you 292.

    its just going to be a street truck, so i was looking for something simple to bang through the gears
