It has been 106 years since Ford Motor Company was founded. Their contributions to the United States Of America are in my opinion without equal. From making automobiles affordable for almost everyone to making things to help win wars I am very grateful. In these 106 years you have had well over 100 American automobile manufacturers to compete with. Some went out of business before the Great Depression, some during and a dozen or more after with Plymouth and Oldsmobile the latest. General Motors and Chrysler Motor Co endured the bad times too although Chrysler had to be "helped" in 1980. Contrary to what you read Chrysler did NOT declare bankruptsy then. The bailout loans were guaranteed by us but were paid back in full WITH INTEREST.

WHAT HAPPENED GENERAL MOTORS AND CHRYSLER? Our leaders gave you BILLIONS and you still had to declare bankruptsy. I am pissed.

THANK YOU FORD FAMILY FOR THE MODEL T, THE '32 FORD, THE '49 MERCURY, THE HOT ROD LINCOLN AND EVERYTHING ELSE YOU HAVE PRODUCED. AND THANK YOU FOR HAVING THE LEADERSHIP AND RESOURSES TO NOT EVER NEED ANY BAILOUT MONEY. SADLY, YOU ARE THE LAST MAJOR AMERICAN AUTOMOBILE COMPANY TO NOT CLOSE UP OR DECLARE BANKRUPTSY. I have never bought a new Ford-Lincoln-Mercury automobile but my next vehicle purchase will be a FOMOCO product.

Ford seems to be a good possibility of being the last old-line American Auto Manufacturer to survive without "help" from the Federal Whack-jobs who will surely drive GM and Chrysler down the yellow brick road to disaster.
    God bless 'em.

I hope they survive. I have worked for Ford, and they are like any other large company, with the exception that they are a FAMILY owened/INVOLVED business. The history, the foresight and determination of Henry Ford, and the people who worked for that company are what made it great. Not the UAW, not the EPA, and certainly NOT the Government.

Ol' Henry was a pretty smart character.... made incredible contributions to the world.

I've been a Ford/MOPAR kinda guy since the late 60's. I bet Walter Chrysler is rolling over in his grave.

Ford is family owned and operated . They don't rely on outside help and government money . They just sell a great product and stick with what sells . They are not greedy like the others that make real poor investments !
The other have investors that really don't give a **** but to make money !

Too many imports have driven this county out of business ! Bottom line ! If we don't put a stop to all the imports from other countries that buy nothing from us in return we will end up with nothing ! We will end up with no jobs or money ! Then you think the foreign countries will give us billions of dollars to rebuild like we did for them . Not a F***ing chance .

Well I totaly agree with retro on the matter. Ford told OBAMA keep your money as we have 21 Billion on hand in the event of an emergency and don't need any hand outs. We have fought the battle with UAW-and the EPA and OSHA and still here cranking out cars. Got to love them for that!!

If I had the ability to buy a new vehicle it would be a FORD product, I just have to let them age a few years and buy them used, its been that was since 1976.

There are two model A's, a 32 Ford truck, and a brand new 2009 F150 in my stable because of all the above mentioned reasons.

Bad management decisions at GM and Mopar along with sellout CEO's, who knew they'd get the rightful blame if they just went bankrupt on their own. That's exactly what should have happened. Then the company would have emerged stronger with better leadership if they were allowed to fail as they shouild have been. I'll never, never buy a car made by a company owned by our corupt government. A new Ford is likely at my household.
RetroJim, foreign countries already give us billions, our government has bankrupted our nation; and the Chinese buying our bonds are the only thing keeping us afloat right now. I don't expect it to last much longer.
It's not all doom and gloom though, people. But you do have to engage in the process of being informed and continually contacting your representatives. It's worth it. If anyone wants to know how to do that and doesn't know already, PM me and I'll point you in the right direction.
