Anybody ever install a '40 Ford deluxe hood and grille on a '40 or '41 pickup ? In 70 years I am sure someone has...lets see some pictures.
I can't post pictures but I did a truck for a customer 20 years ago that was originally built back in the 50's with a conversion like you describe. It involved fitting a portion of the Deluxe cowl to the pickup cab in order to mount the front. Not very complicated and looked nice when done. Maybe someone like Malcolm has pictures of it at this years Omaha car show.
I figure with how popular the 40 deluxe is and how popular the '40 pickup is this has probably been done a hundred times already. I have been kicking around the idea and would love to see some first.
Not the best shot, but shows the front sheetmetal. Friend built it a few years ago, has p***enger car dash also.
I've seen a bunch of them- typically, two hoods (a pickup rear, and a deluxe front) are molded together. My question- why?
If I'm not mistaken, Dan Collins built a pickup using a '40 Dlx front end on it years back. I know I have a picture of it somewhere, but not on my hard drive. Real good looking truck though.
How about pics of a '40 truck and a '40 Deluxe? Google image search doesn't bring up anything but toys.
I agree with how come. A forty pickup front end looks great. The only way,IMO, to make it look right is to do as my friend did with the red one, combine hoods to keep pickup body reveal. Not that much different look except for deluxe grill. I would not do it myself. Now the p***enger car dash, that's different. In fact he is doing another one right now. Much improved over PU dash. IMO. Joe
1. The shape of the hood/cowl interface is different. 2. The hoods are different length. 3. The pickup hood has a reveal that matches the cab, the car has a crease line. 4. The pickup hood is taller than the car hoods (about 1-1/2"). The height issue can be solved by mildly channeling the pickup cab.
Great looking truck...thats what I was looking for. As to why...why not ? Why put a '32 grill on a model A, the original grille is nice. Why chop a '50 Ford, stock height looks great. You build YOUR car the way YOU like it.
There it is; glad I had the attribution right. Personally, I think it looks pretty *****en'. I also like '39 Dlx front ends on '40 pickups, but I might be biased.
hey Speedy, thanks, yeah i wish I still had that truck. I think 40-41 pickups are just about the best looking trucks ford ever made. BTW we used a truck hood and a deluxe p***enger car hood to do it, as was suggested above.
