322 starter up grade

    Here we go I'm looking for any help on what where how much on a new starterfor a 56 322 nailhead because mine went to **** this past weakend
    anything will help

    have it rebuilt, there has to be an Auto Electric place around that does them. I've had far better luck with that then the ones you can actually get these days.

    I put a set of brushes and a solenoid on one five years ago, and it's still kicking.
    CARS has the pieces you need.
    If the windings are toast, like ZMAN said, take it to a local auto electric place.

    I also had the old fart looking and we found a guy close by
    and i have no idea how bad it is because i don't need to get that pissed off right now
    but thanks again I'll let you guys know what happens

  5. It's just a Chevy starter with a Buick "snout" on it....................Well the 364, 401 is. Can't say I ever took apart a 322.
     
  6. The bendix / solenoid set up is a little different on the 322. The linkage is external to the starter, but basically the same.
