Its a good reminder to make sure you and others are safe.. it could happen to any one.. pretend there airplanes.. Double check all parts..and structure.. Hope the persons recovery is speedy..
I've learned to drive my hot rod as if it were a Harley. I NEVER trust the judgement of anyone around me on the open road. Keeping a distance of at least 6 car-lengths (whenever possible) is also a practice of mine. You can NEVER be too safe! I wish the best for this unfortunate driver!
One thing I never do is drive in the blind spot of anyone in the next lane going in the same direction. I always stay with them or slightly ahead so they know I am there.
I hate seeing stuff like this happen. Glass cars don't usually stay together like this one.. Hope he's alright... 1939fiat (rick)
Even though a lot of people hate street beasts, if you have put one together you would be surprised how much steel tubeing is in the roof ,and behind the doors. I am not surprised it held up. Carlg
This just made up my mind. I was going to build a "fake" roll bar for the greaseslapper, probably out of exhaust tubing, just for the "early competition" flavor. Now I'm going to get my friend to bend up some .095 DOM and make a real bar instead. not only will it stiffen up the chassis, it will keep my noggin off the pavement.
I talked to my friend who knows the driver. Apparently he is busted up pretty good; facial lacerations, punctured lung, broken hips, broken femur. He is scheduled for surgery next Tuesday. A full day of surgery........ Wish him well.
Jesus, next Tuesday! WTF! Last time I got that smashed up, they screwed me back together the next day. This poor guy is suffering for a whole week. Fuuuuuuck!
Don't let anyone tell you the Canadian healthcare system is one to admire. Let's hope there is a good reason surgery is delayed.
This is common , to delay surgery, even in the States in these situations. The doctors may be getting his body stabilized before surgery-getting his vitals up. The doctors may had concerns he would not have survived the operation/anesthesia when first brought in.
Guys, anyone can lose control of any vehicle at any time. I've been in two major wrecks in my life. First, I drove a '71 Datsun 510 into the rear of a '79 Ford F250 4x4 at 55 mph. Had the seat belt on and stayed in the seat. If I had not, I'd have went through the windshield like a bullet and impacted the tailgate with my head. Second, I was a passenger in a '72 Cutlass S coupe when the driver overshot a gravel curve, and we went off the embankment at about 50 mph. The car flipped end-over-end six times! The engine and tranny came out of the car, as did the back seat and the spare tire. We both had the belts one. We we also the only things left of the car. Both events happened at age 18. And I have been wearing belts ever since. You can bet your ass that my '37, my '56, and any other car I may own that did not originally have seat belts originally, gets them. Screw traditional, in that sense. Common sense trumps traditional any day.
When I put my '55 on the road my friends said that since the car didn't have seat belts from the factory that I didn't need them... I said well yes I do.. safety shouldn't need to be government mandated.. use your head or loose it...
Gotta hope for a full recovery. I always say that using my seat belt is my only good habit. My Mom started us wearing them over 30 years ago before I got my drivers license. Hated it back then but feel naked with out them now. I wish my old truck had a shoulder harness.
my grandfather rear ended a car in his 67 dodge truck,totaled the truck,the car he hit was a 73 satallite,this was in the ninetys,you never know,good luck to the driver of the coupe,
I don't think he was doing anything reckless. If he was speeding it could have been worse. if it was another driver he should have had an out so I'm guessing instead of being too fast for conditions, he fell asleep, maybe just for a second. Right after work and from 2-4 am are the worst times a day for nodding off. You know those blinks you get when your zombied out from lack of sleep or from the somnambulant drone of that road come with a little jolt? you were asleep for a second or two. Most times nothing happens and we never notice unless this happens. That's how it happened to me.
