Just wait and when the son gets them then you can make him an offer. If he is going to junk them you might not have to come up with much coin to get them. They are dry and safe right now, and sounds like they will still be there for a while, so just wait until the sons decided to get rid of them.

There is a good chance they will drop through the floor if you do try and move them.

Crap like this gives my 2 year old son hope for "barn finds", I say horde it and hide it. We are way too spoiled at only 100 years from the beginning of automobiles. Try doing what we do in 500 years, is the car you are building today cool enough to be kept from rotting into the ground by then? As long as they are protected forget about them and thank that man for the opportunity to see them.

here is my idea, marry the girlfriend, mow her grandpas yard for the rest of his life, sit and talk cars with him, make everyone in the family LOVE you and when its his time for HOT ROD HEAVEN, well offer to take the trailers sight unseen from the widow and
    THEN ITS ALL YOURS!!!!

Like said before, atleast they are out of the elements, and I think you'll be the only one on here with the MULTIPLE 53' SEMI TRAILER find "aka Barn find" lol

Good luck and I only read the 1st page so if I missed something sorry

the guys not a dick..hes a douche bag.hoarding for hoardings sake is pure selfish crap.Wont sell them ,wont do anything with them, puts them in trailers.seriously i dont respect professional procrastination, because you own something that people find desirable and you wont do anything with them or sell them ,just lock them away because you can ,is total douche baggery....wait till he dies and the banks send them to the crusher, how many on here will be crying about it..tick tock, tick tock.

If things go well with you and the lady, convince her the best way to "keep you in harness" is "the old cars" she'll do the rest for you.

I wouldn't sell something I wanted to leave to my kids. Even if the kids sell them. That's like leaving a good chunk of money to the family.

They probably are stolen, or have dead bodies in the trunks.

  16. Guy won't live forever, you just need someone to be the junk buyer, funded with your cash and a written contract you get the cars, he gets the trailers -

I saw over Easter weekend a few Semi trailers with some cars in them. The best was the trailer with a 37 Chevy convertible and a pair of 38 Chevy convertibles... The only thing forsale was the 30' Chevy coupe I traded for. The stuff's still out there...

  19. I got an '89 Accord I'll swap ever for that '39 ford !

  20. I have to second that. If you want those cars you'll become a regular fixture at grandpa's house. And get in really good with the old man way before it goes south with the gal pal, (either by brake up or marriage.)Don't just go and talk nothing but car either, mow for him, fix the toilet, clean out the gutters, be his go to guy. Do all the things that tree hugging, candy ass liberal, douche bag son won't get his pinkies dirty doing. If he took time to show you the cars it might just be that he's considered the fact that sonny has no appreciation for the legacy he's worked so hard to leave for him and he's looking for a worthy replacement.

And to all you guy's whining about hoarders being selfish; I bet you were the kid who used to go to other kids birthday parties and then whine and cry because you couldn't take his Big Wheel home with you. Grow up! If it weren't for guy's "hoarding" stuff Ladybird would have gotten 90% of the stuff we drive 40 years ago.

maybe CadDaddy has a point there that none of the rest of us have thought of before; he did show the cars to someone, there may be more to this than meets the eye. I doubt that he makes it a point to show these old cars to just everybody who stops by, maybe he likes knowing that his grand daughter has a friend that is interested in old stuff, and might be the guy to resurrect these old beauties, You can only hope it's something like that, good luck, hope the girl is pretty, and she doesn't hate the things that are important to you,

By that statement it's obvious you haven't been trying to buy too many cars that are sitting. Get used to being turned down.

I try and buy old stuff almost weekly, some times they are cars that haven't moved in 30/40 years sometimes longer. If you really want them just be patience, that is all I can say.

Stay in contact w/the old man and when he is gone or realizes that his son dosen't care for them thay might be yours.

But to his defence, if he hadn't hoared them they would have been gone a long time a go.. You owe him some thanks.

You know, as much as we may not like it, he is right on the money. And look at it this way - at least they are in dry storage and not rotting away outside in the weather with the freakin windows busted out.

Think of it this way -they are being preserved for someone else . . . after the old man decides to sell or passes away.

True true I do hang out and shoot the shit with him and help him fix his old tractors and such. Maybe just maybe there will be some new light for those cars one day!
