OK, I've spent several hours over the last few days perusing a number of car related sites. Im thinking to myself there sure are a lot of organizations that have either been through, or going through some major changes. From what I can see, not many of those changes are well received by the folks belonging to those organization and/or those who attend the events as spectators. A few big examples come to mind: <ONASCAR (yeah I know, who gives a **** but bear with me a minute) seems to have lost a huge portion of their fan base. For sure, the old-time fans have left in droves since plate racing, the COT, and a zillion rules that constantly change. <ONHRA appears to be suffering the same fate and direction since 1320 went away and the BS countdown to the championship came about. The powers that be didnt have the gonads to address inadequate tracks and require track owners to meet safe standards to handle ¼ mile racing because of political correctness and such. Now theyre looking at a new 413 cid fuel program to slow the cars down in an effort to return to traditional 1320. What do they slow down next? Fuel cars will run with alky cars. Alky cars will run with ProMods. ProMods with Pro Stock, etc. <O NSRA, as irrelevant as they are in todays market, is going to the new era 30 year rule. This has been much debated and doesnt warrant any more discussion except to make a point. <OCorporate seems to be run by a bunch of people whove never worked a day in their lives. Decisions are made that effect peoples lives and livelihood based on some bean counters flawed numbers. People get hurt or killed in the name of a production schedule and greed. Layoffs, closures, tumbling stock prices, and all the social fallout that comes with that. All disseminated from some board room by a bunch of people who couldnt find their **** with both hands. <OSo what is the point? <OThank goodness for the HAMB. Its not an organization we belong" to. Its a movement, a fraternity, a direction, a forum thats sort of living and not stifled by a group of stuffed shirts. Ryan and Kevin give us free rein (for the most part) to speak our mind around traditional hotrodding. Most of us accept the unspoken rules and are willing to get slapped when we do or say something stupid. Several of us attend a variety of events with different organizations and play by their rules cause its their sandbox. <OBut its different here a bunch of rebels and hotrod hoodlum hanging out, sharing cars-dreams-info, caring about each other I hope it stays that way.<O
Damn man , you have hit the nail right on the head ! It's nothing but a bunch of ******** ***holes that just like to make rules for whatever they dream up when they are taking a **** ! It has come to the point that there is no compe***ion anymore ! With all these damn new rules , the only way to when is if the engine breaks or the driver makes a mistake . Hey how about a candy wrapper on the track if the leader is running away with the race because he did the set up better than the other guy . I thought that was the whole idea of racing . What ever happened to run what you brung and see how well you can make things work by using your head and trial and error . Now computers do a good bit of the work to make the engine run and shift the trans for you . If all the cars are the same along with the drive trains all the same what is left ? Where has all the fun gone in racing today ? It's not getting to be much fun like it use to be . Things go wrong when you are pushing the envelope , but that's racing ! People get hurt and sometimes never come home but that will happen just going to the store to get something . I am getting very disappointed too ! Maybe Ryan should sell a book on " How to make it work for everyone" like he has done for the HAMB !
careful man , it appears you know a few things and your opinion is spot on but be wary of men in black suits and un-marked helocopters as they now know who you are..
Hehe, silver foil around the house confuses them, also pays to wear a hat of tn foil. Most of the decisions that are ruining sport are made by boards of 'directors', they sit in a room and go over, over and over again the decisions. What may have started with good intentions becomes convoluted through lengthy discussion and the result it something that, although it made sense to the people who spent weeks talking through it is absolute argon and BS to us. They need to get their heads out of the board room and on the ground at events to get a clear picture to work from, maybe then they will make some decisions that are right. Or maybe not, am I giving them too much credit? Doc.
Uh....... did you take into consideration the cost of going to a NHRA, Nascar, or NSRA event as compared to a typical HAMB weekend? Apples and Oranges. Larry T
Yeah, until someone uses the wrong word, an incorrect term, puts the wrong wheels on his car, or breaks any of the numerous unwritten rules, then the **** gets dumped on him just like anywhere else. I like it here, there's a lot of knowledge to be gleaned, but make no mistake about it, it's just another "good ole boys club", and there is an inner circle. "Rebels" as you call them are welcomed, as long as they don't rebel too much, or in the wrong direction. I do share your enthusiasm for this place, but I guess at my age and experiences, I just have a more realistic view of the world, and lower expectations of my fellow man. Hey, it's great here though ain't it!
