Alright I read up on everything I could to ***le an old car and my head is spinning !

Does anyone here know when cars received VIN numbers for ***ling purposes? I'm working on a Ford Model A and a Chevy in the 28 - 31 year range. My understanding was they did not have a VIN.

I need to get paper work but I do not want an out of state ***le or open registration. I'm not going to bond it. What is the process here in Texas?

Anyone got any ideas? Suggestions? Thanks

Look on the top of the frame, drivers side, of the Model A for a vin # some (I don't think all) were stamped there.

Look at the DOT site and they tell it all.

Do you have the original engine? A lot were ***led on the engine number, Do see the stamping on the drivers side rail you will normally have to remove the body.

  6. Cars had a serial number prior to 1968. Some states used the engine number instead of the serial number, especially on Model A's and similar cars where the serial number is stamped on the frame and hard to access without tearing the car apart. Most states accept a serial number in place of a "VIN" for old cars.
