Kinda hot out already, but the scene is too. A couple of guys even hit the strip early last night. Father and son race........ Dad won! Sorry Kenny............................ First time for this event in the Hagerstown MD. area after running 25 years in Gettysburg PA. Hope it succeeds and builds since adding the drags to the event...........
Hope for nothing but the best for KKOA. Had to drop out several years ago because of a move, and bad business decision, but still miss it. Best shows I ever went to, and made more friends and fond memories at them than any others. Jerry ***us is a genuine credit to this hobby, who has done more for those of us diggin' on Kustoms than anyone else. And yes, there IS a "K" in Kustom. Like it or not, George Barris put it there, an Jerry ***us brought it back! Long live KKOA...
Just got home from up there. Had a good time. We chatted with Jerry briefly. He seems like he sincerely wants everyone to have a fun time at this event. Enjoyed the drag racing, especially the fellow who lost all the contents of his trunk when he launched his '48 Chevy. I gotta give the guy credit though. After coming back down the return road and picking up the 8-pack of Mountain Dew and the rest of his belongings, he continued to make multiple p***es.
I was in Gettysburg getting some things but happen to see the " Gettysburg Time " and the front page has a big write up about the KKOA show in town ! Yes they said it was the "KKOA" and showed some pictures of some hot rods & customs ! I really don't know where they got their information , but they still think it's the same show ! I guess someone should tell them they really screwed up ! I was going to wait to see how the show in Mason/Dixon turned out . I couldn't get there but hope to hear something about it and some more pics too ! I will be there next year and hope to do some fun racing !
Drove about an hour and a half to get there. Got there at around 11:30. No one I knew had showed up at that point, the field was pretty sp****, same old very mild customs with some dazzling rat rods added into the mix this year. After 15 minutes I got back in my car and drove back home.
I went to Gettysburg show they had some great cars but not near the cars or spectators they have had in past. I don't have problem with shows splitting its there choice but you would think they would not compete for same week and be located so close. They must have the IRL advising them.
Got better as the day went by. Picked up pretty well from Lunch time on. Yep, one guy even had his trunk pop open during the rod drags. Added a whole new meaning to dumping the laundry, and we're not talking the chute......lol
Anyone have any additional pics from the Mason-Dixon show? Would like to see pics of the '58 El Camino "conversion", the Seafoam Green '55 Ford from upstate New York, or the "bad-***" '50 Ford Coupe with the 460ci Ford big block in it. Thanks, Don.
Damn I love this coupe. It doesn't look like it in this picture but it's a genuine business coupe with factory sealed 1/4 windows and no back seat. Just the factory shelf. A rare car and nicely done for my tastes. We chose this show because it was the 26th annual. I have foggy memories of going to a Gettysburg show for customs in what seemed like a field along a main road more than 26 years ago. I am disappointed that the two shows divided the turn out but I must admit that the drag racing was a definite plus for me.
oh man that was funny as all when he lost the contents of his trunk - but honestly, he only needed that extra weight for the launch...made sense to me... it was hot out, and the vending machine was putting out luke warm bottles, but other than being an idiot and not wearing my cap and ending up having a face the color of a lobster, I had a blast, as did my girlfriend. Met a couple Hamb'ers Slowandlow63 and chopolds for a bit(super nice guys), watched some of the races, drooled alot over some of the cars - loved the car with the Lexan valve covers -didnt catch the owners name, but he was cool and stopped to talk between his runs on the strip...
Well that explains why you were nowhere to be found! We got there around 11 as well and left around 3. Met ChromeStreamliner and even asked him to keep an eye out for you! Oh well, next time. Wasn't the worst show I've ever been to by far, but it was alot of driving all in one day. 8 hours, but John's '47 Ford took it like a champ!
WOW...GREAT pix and it looks to have been a fun place to be. Thanks for taking me along...through your camera.
Certainly was a good time for a show at a brand new location. Some still went to the old location filled by someone else not knowing all that would be happening here. It's already been set again for next year at the strip and bigger better plans for vintage funny cars and g***ers in the works already. Street driven rods will still be on the track as planned. Special to see the first vehicle award go to a couple that completely scratch built their rod at home. 60 h.p. flattie from a midget racer and absolutely no billet! It belongs to the wife who drove it to the event. Is that cool or what?
