Can anyone tell me about how many more runs are left on these slicks ? The wear holes are about 3/32 to 1/8 deep still. I dont mind buying new ones ,but i dont want to pull them till their spent either. They are M/T ET drags size 26/8.5/15 ,and are still soft with no weathering.Im not sure how many runs are on them ,since they were on the car when i bought it .I am easy on my burnouts ,so i know that helps.I just bring them up to temp and clean them off,no John Force stuff in the water box.Do they have enough left for another trip to the strip ,or should i buy new ones now ? Not trying to ask a dumb question here ,i just dont know ...
I would replace them for two reasons:1. I always found my Mickey's seemed to lose a little bit of bite after 70% tire wear. 2. If you replace them now you can still sell them and get some money toward a new set. They are not going to last all season so why have to redial the car later in the year.
I see what your saying PaulWeldit ,about the bite ,and i have heard that as well about M/T's.I plan to replace them with Hoosier's when its time ,because i heard they last longer and bite better from lots of racers. Its only an 11 second car ,that i will be racing for fun a half a dozen times a year ,not a serious race operation .I just wanted to make sure they were still safe to go play a bit more and about how many runs they had left .I appreciate your opinion anyway ,thanks ...
Shocker I run that same tire on my mid 12 second bracket car and I'm going on 3 + years on mine and they still get good 60 ft times and consistent ET's. I have maybe 1/8" depth on the holes. I use to be easy on then in the burnout but now I smoke those babies.
I ran a pair of 26x8.5x15 M/T et drags on my old 66 mustang with a 4speed (launching at 8000 rpms with a 125 shot of nitrous) till the wear holes were just barely noticeable and they were still working excellent, with 3/32-1/8 left they should still be good for awhile. God I miss that car, but when you need the money what can you do.
Ran as quick as a 12.04 (using the clutch to shift). 306 cubes, 9.0:1, small roller cam, 2.02/1.60 valves, 600cfm dbl pumper, toploader 4 speed, 9" w/posi 3.73's. One night I made 4 p***es, ran 12.06, 12.05, 12.07, 12.04, so I guess I can drive a 4 speed car pretty good.
Dig the old Mustang Kenneth.Thats pretty impressive times for a little 306 and a stick shift .Thanks for the info on the slicks ,looks like im gunna run them a bit longer ...
IMHO M/T slicks are the best you can get as far as how long they last, and the sidewalls don't go away like the other makes of slicks.
