been doing some searching on lowering my truck havent found much info on it. what are some options for the front and rear.
Cut the coils on a parallel leaf spring setup? That'd be interesting. Rookie, look at the numerous threads regarding the later model F-1's and F-100's up into the '60s. They all share a similar front end. Reversing the spring eyes and putting the axle on top of the springs seems to be pretty common for the front end. Is your truck 1/2 ton or bigger? On my '47 One ton, there isn't a whole lot of room to lower anything without C-notches or fabricating kickups. I have about 3 inches between the axles and the rails....and it doesn't have an engine in it yet. Still gotta take apart the front leaf packs though, since 600 lbs of friends on the front bumper only moved it down about 1/2". Tim D.
a good drop axle in front, removing every other leaf, for the rear: raising the y hangers higher on the frame or c notch and axle flip , those are about the most popular. Couple of good axle vendors are http://www.droppedaxles.com/FOR_SALE.html http://www.roadsters.com/axles/ yeah, no coils on these years...no drop spindles either.
I used R & B rear springs and spring hangers on the rear and Fat Man independent front end on my 46. It dropped it app. six inches all around. A dropped front axle from a 48 thru 52 Ford truck will work by reusing the original 46 brake and steering parts
