Picked up a new car...gave it some new tires, and drove it 200 miles to that it could ride back home to Austin. The original owner who was 87, had this car for 40+ years before I got ahold of it. Should be a fun driver. We got a littl side tracked on the way there, and saw this awesome Rudi Truck. Once we arrived, the car needed a little attitude before I drove it all the way to Modesto from Santa Rosa. These skinny whites had to go. Luckily Sam brought some proper wheels and tires... I thought the tire wrench was sam's, and Bob made me give it back. Made the transaction And we were off... Took Grandma for a ride...this thing is 20 years younger than her. Yes... Fed-Ex ships cars. A number of years ago (10?) they bought "Passport Transport" one of the best classic auto shipping companies, based out of Missouri. I've shipped a number of cars with them before/after they became Fed-Ex and I highly recommend them. Pretty much the same cost as the cheap guys (my company just moved me and their open carier quote was higher than Fed-Ex!) and you get enclosed shipping by people who specialize in a lot of valuable collector cars. --steve

Love your new car. I just got the '38 Deluxe that Harrison here on the HAMB once had. As you probably know a '38 Deluxe and a '39 Standard are virtually the same. It went from Harrison to Fuelppump and then to me. I had to part with a '32 5w to get it but since finding a "no run" problem and fixing it I'm having a ball driving it around. Frank

That is one freaking beautiful car! Wow! I would love to find a nice coupe like that someday. For now I'll be content with my sedan though. Congratulations- enjoy it! PS- be ready to have to try to convince a lot of people that it's a '39 not a '38. I get people telling me, "Nice '38" all the time. Some absolutely refuse to believe it's a '39. Jay
Thanks for all the kind words, I have pleny of work to do fellas. 1. Add a carb or convert to a 4 bbl 2. New front reverssed eye spring (it sits just right because the spring is essentially flat) dropped axle. and steering arms. 3. rebuild the shifter. 4. interior refresh. the seat is a bit worn out, and I'd like to have the dash and window moldings done in woodgrain. 5. better cooling system; either replace the crappy electric with a better one, or go mechanical, and flush out the system. 6. find out why it only puts 12v to the battery, and 14v to the battery when you rev it up. I think a new alternator is in order...and a rewire. it's like a rat's nest under the dash 7. drive it.
-on the alternator- if it is a 1 wire, some of them do that intentionally. keeps You from overcharging...in theory, anyway.
