Hey anybody put 54 chevy car spindles on a 51 chevy truck axle and had camber problems? Im trying to get my gassers camber right its at 3 degress positive I was told the axle I was using must be bent so I put another axle out of a 51 chevy truck under it.same thing 3 degrees. are the car spindles and truck spindles different camber angles? I tryed to flip them upside down to see if that would help and it made it way worse. Im about ready to set fire to the car after i have fought this damn camber problem somebody HELP!!!!!!!! THANKS

  2. How much caster do you have on the axle? If you have a lot of caster that will effect the camber and changing the toe in will help that but might not get it perfect. 1 degree is ok and might be the best you can do with out bending the axle.I was thinking that the car spindle will work ok of the pick-up axle but let me check that out. I have both spindles and an axle.

I believe that the car and truck spindles do have different kingpin angles. To get 5 lugs on a 51 truck axel, you can probably just put 51 - 54 car hubs on the truck spindles. I know for sure that this works with 55 - 59 Chevy truck front axels.

  6. The brakes and backing plates are the same 51-59 Trucks and the passenger car 5 lug hubs from 51 -54 are a bolt on.Just looked at every thing and just eye balling it, the king pin angles look different.

  7. oh yeah, forgot to say 7 degrees would not be enough to cause the camber to be off. Something like 15 -20 degrees could.

Yes the camber angles are different. I tried this same thing several years ago. If you just trying to get 5 lugs on the front just do like others mentioned, use 51 - 54 hubs and drums.

we just installed an 47-54 chevy half ton axle under a 53 and it worked fine. We had the the same problem as you said. We solved this by using stock half ton spindels with 53 chevy car backing plates, drums, and hubs. Solved the camber issue.

bending the axle was how it was done at one point in time, so it's definately traditional:)

I would like to find some truck spindles and brake backing plates and use my drums and hubs. So far I havent been able to find anyone who has the truck spindles so Im at a stand still until I find some. If I cant find any soon Ill be forced to bend the axle. you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes.

Given how many guys toss the original truck axle I can't believe you're having trouble finding the spindles. Have you put a parts wanted on any of the old truck sites?

I put 52 Chevy Car drums on a 51 pickup truck straight axle to have 5 lug bolt pattern.

I have a 51 truck axle, 5 lug drums that I would like to use my current 53 car spindles and disc brakes on. Would I be time ahead to just make a new plate to mount the caliper to the truck parts? I was only concerned with caster, I never even thought about a camber issue.

  20. Seems clear from this thread that car spindles, while they will fit on the truck axle, won't be correctable for camber.

use truck spindles on the truck axle. get your disc brake parts from speedwaymotors.com they have everything to make it work.

use the truck spindles and go to speedwaymotors.com for the parts to put your disc brakes on the truck spindles. your caliper mounts could be modified to fit the truck spindles might have to add on to them or redrill some holes.

hey 53sled are you using the leafs and all on the car off the truck? i have a friend that wants to straight axle his 53, my bro has a truck axle, i have the car stuff and mabe he could do the same swap as you. i'd rather have stock american parts made by proud american workers under any of my cars instead if cheap made aftermarket junk made with no standard.
