I've been looking for a cheap inline 6 to power my 29 Chevy roadster. I just bought a complete air cleaner to pan, fanblade to bellhousing, 63' 230 Chevy inline 6 for $25, 5 miles from my house. Did I mention it's a running motor? I go and pick it up on Friday. I'm actually still looking for a cheap & running 55-62 235 but if I don't find one by the time I'm ready to get the roadster going, I'lle nail this 230 in it and dress it up as period correct as possible. 6 in a row FTW!
Man, I thought I scored for a 68 chevy 230 inline 6 for a hundred dollars delivered? The guy said it was running, but it didn't have any oil in it so I figured no big deal if it wasn't. A few months later I dug into it and found that, not only was it running, but after completely re-sealing the motor it looked like a fresh rebuild. I stabbed it in the 53 after cleaning it up and shes been purring like a kitten. before after
Well, the motor wasn't as complete as he originally described(no aircleaner, waterpump, fan blade or pullies) but I'm not complaining. It also wasn't a stick shift but again, I'm not complaining. I got it home yesterday(*&^#%@ RAIN!!!) and I was actually shocked at the condition of the motor. And I should probably mention that it is equipped with a Mallory DUAL POINT distributor!!! I spun the motor over by hand to be sure it wasn't froze, handed him the $25 and had it in the bed of my dads C10 in less than 5 minutes and GONE before he changed his mind!!! When I got home, I ran the numbers and it is actually a 250 from a Camaro I need to get a starter for it(he broke the starter when he pulled the motor) and a waterpump, pulleys, etc... I plan on making a cradle to mount it and then get the motor running to see what I'm workin' with. Now to find a pre 89 S10 T-5 around here that someone HASN'T pulled the shifter out of
Check the throttle shaft on the carb, those were known to wear out and it may need a bushing and shaft. just did one on a 64 van. Nice score, surprised no one else scooped it before you did. JC that motor looks sweet!!!
Thanks. I'm pretty excited about this. I always said that I'lle never own a 6 cylinder but I guess there's an exception to the rule. Oh, the carb was a reman'd carb and seemed to be decent. I'm goin to go thru it with a kit to bring it back to snuff though... "six offender" lol...
Nice score. Damb I missed that. If you ever find that 235 you want I'd be interested in that 250 for my Nova.
I'lle keep ya in mind. There is another one on there in Oaklyn (3 miles from my dads) with a trans. He also has a Clifford valve cover and had a 250 header for a 68+ Nova and a clifford 4 barrel intake from the same car. It looks like the header & intake are gone... http://southjersey.craigslist.org/pts/1229171208.html motor/trans http://southjersey.craigslist.org/pts/1229172922.html valve cover
I wouldn't brag about that dual point. Don't waste any time with it. Most of the guys I know who bought that thing, me included, regretted it. The condensers are junk and burn up constantly. I was left stranded twice because of that p.o.s. I finally put an HEI on my 235 and couldn't be happier with the results. My engine loves it too! I only wish I had the cash I paid for it back so I could use it on some good parts. Besides, unless your racing, the mechanical advance is useless. Dom
You can get an adaptor from Tom Langdon and put a 235 valve cover on it, paint it blue and 98% of people won't know the difference.
Nice find. I'm in the process of buying a 348 Chevy from an old Neighboor lady. She's never home though.....She only wants $100 , so I'll be nice and patient
Thanks guys! Yeah, I was thinking of using a stock distributor with the Pertronix conversion in it. The HEI's are just TOOOO big and look way to new for my tastes. Anyone have a pic of the 216/235 valve cover adapter? Langdons site doesn't show the picture. I like the idea of that...
