Bob Bogle of rock band The Ventures dies at 75

TACOMA, Washington (AP) -- Bob Bogle, lead guitarist and co-founder of the rock band The Ventures, known for 1960s instrumental hits including "Walk, Don't Run," has died at age 75.

Don Wilson, the band's other co-founder, told The News Tribune of Tacoma that Bogle became ill over the weekend and died Sunday.

The band sold millions of albums and heavily influenced other rock guitarists. It was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008. The hall's Web site hailed The Ventures as "the most successful instrumental combo in rock and roll history."

One of my favorite groups....they will be missed

I saw that... RIP, his influence can be heard in all SORTS of punk rock (my Dad loves the Ventures and hates everything I listen to, until I put on an Agent Orange record where, among other surf stuff, they covered Pipeline). One of the first to work the livin' hell out of a whammy bar.

My father had a soft spot for the Ventures. Definitely gave me my appreciation for them. God Speed.

Wow, sorry to hear that they were great. Perfidia was cool too. I loved instrumentals from the early days and they were at the top of the list.

Well it is our job to steward you into the right way to build a car, and garage tunes is a big part of that. Go get some surf instrumentals, quick.

The Challengers (my favorite cut - Latin'ia - you'll find this on Surf Beat)
    The Sentinels
Dick Dale and the Del Tones
    The Surfaris

    and of course The Ventures

    RIP Bob Bogle :(

It always stings a bit when you hear of another band member passing away from the Golden Era of Rock N Roll.Thankfully for all of us they left behind some timeless Music for everyone to enjoy.Being a Drummer of 26 years, its funny but I have an acoustic guitar I keep next to my computer and almost on a daily basis play "Walk Don't Run" and "Perfidia" I even own the original 45( Thats a 45 RPM Record, not a pistol, for you real young ones out there) with those two songs on it.

Very sad to hear indeed! Slaughter on 10th Avenue is one of my all time favorites. I have several of their albums that I play quite a bit.

Ventures used to play in Lewiston, ID from time to time. I was in a small rockabilly combo in HS and was able to meet the Ventures one afternoon when they had just gotten to town. They already had several hits, but it was just like talking to some dudes from down the street. I don't recall Bogle specifically, and I think that the 'road band' had a couple different guys from the 'studio band'.

well if you were a teenager or a twenties something in the very early 60s this is what you heard on your AM radio in the garage or possibly while you built model cars in your bedroom like me.

That you tube link got me started on a sentimental trip through the instrumentals of the day. All of them said hotrod to me without any voices. I guess you had to be there.

  20. Some of the greatest music of the rock era!

Hey, chadman117 newbie guy, I'm sure you've heard of the '60s show "Hawaii Five-O"...

Isn't there an age limit here or something? How young are you that you have never heard of the Ventures? My son is 12 and he knows who they are!

Like Maxwedge, I listen to 'Walk Dont Run' regularly; maybe not quite as often; two, three times a week. It takes me back to a recording session one night in our Navy electronics shop on Guam in the summer of 61. Memorys of days gone by....

Heres the Ventures inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

Well thats ok when ever I see the promos for the grammys or one of the other contemporary award shows I turn to my wife and say who are these people and what have they done ? whether its music, movies or car guys, the saddest thing about our generations heros passing is it reminds of our own mortality..
sooo we better party while we can, go to a car show, go see some of the nostalgia bands while you can. and use every opportunity to spread the spirit of the '50s & '60 to your kids and grandkids...
RIP all the great ones we have lost, and thanks for the memories

They are the best..any CD for a road trip that doesn't have the Ventures, Booker T, Richie Valens, etc. is sorely lacking...

Man, I've got a Ventures double album on LP and when I went to play it them, they were warped... :( Anyone know a magical way to de-warp a LP?
