Wondering if there are any actual car clubs in Des Moines or central Iowa. If not Im looking to start one TODAY. Im tired of going to these shows that have tricked out S10s and foreign cars and being the only Rod there. Let me know and we can start terrorizing these "car shows" this weekend.
There's the generic CIA club that does show and shines, that's about the only club I know of. I don't think there's a quasi-traditional hotrod and custom club around. There used to be one in Des Moines called the Molesters back in the day.
Good luck man. I think you're gonna find there's so few cars around here that it's foolish to try and define yourself as different or too good to park next to a tricked out S10. Your club members are gonna have that stuff on the other side of the garage anyway.
I am a member of the Resurrected Tin in Pella. We do have a few members from near Des Moines. We will be doing our annual show on July 10 and 11. It will be our 30th year.
I do consider myself too good to park next to tricked out S10s. I've spent many hours customizing my vehicle by hand with hand made parts and my own ideas. I didn't buy 3/4 of my vehicle from tuners-r-us. I didnt just take my truck to the audio and video warehouse with a pocket full of cash and think that makes my vehicle show worthy. And more over it's foolish of anyone to think that there are too few cars to ask. I've seen many cars around the metro so that's a BS excuse.
Sorry if that sounded rude. Wasn't meant to be. I just know car clubs that exist in very rural areas and if they can pull together 4-5 vehicles then I don't see why DSM couldn't.
I think I'm good with that club. Will stick to keeping an open mind about how many hours and how much craftsmanship went into vehicles, cause I've seen some major piece of **** traditional vehicles and some super-insano complicated/fabricated late models. With 5 cars 2 of ya are still gonna be next to S10s. Putting up walls ain't helping the hobby. Not one bit.
We will agree to disagree. Just because I want to hang out with individuals that have common era vehicles and have experiences in the same areas I do does not mean Im putting up walls. The last 3 shows Ive gone to I was the ONLY person that did anything to their own vehicle. The last show: 4 S10s- all bagged with stock exteriors and interiors, an H2 Hummer with 16 TVs and 200k watt stereo, A tricked out fully custom 1998 Acura, and a 2007 Harley Davidson Edition Ford truck tricked out with neon. I talked to every individual about the work on their trucks and not one could claim a single thing that they actually did to their vehicles. That is the only beef I have is that my vehicle get compared to something that they had no role in creating or restoring, just dropping it off someplace and forking over the cash. Ohh and would just like to make it known that I have a tuned Honda Accord so its not some hatred on the tuner world. I was simply asking for other Rodders who want to cruise the town and go to shows as a group.
Sorry man, the frame is goners. But makes me feel better that somebody noticed the ad! If you continue to need one I know a guy that's whacko for S10s and always combining a couple. He's bound to have another frame within a year. Try radical cycle's saturday cruise night on the NE corner of town, they have a pretty good turnout and you'll find some real-deal gearheads that built their own stuff.
made it twice but im on two wheels most of time right now..... rad cycle/porkys pub also has a wednday nigth cruze quits a few gold chainers but there are lots of cool home built cars in dm
One nice thing about this area is the chainers are usually first generation and at some point have actually built something themselves, or have some respect for those who do because their dad is/was hands-on. There's just not much money here and what money there is ain't into old cars. You move off into larger urban areas and the chainers start appearing in higher percentages. I just don't understand all this chainer concern. We got it good. Real good. Well except that the roads are full of bland sh*t so anything cool sticks out like a sore thumb. And the cops are all 1955 about it. And one of your neighbors will always think you're dealing dope if you've got a "fancy car". But other than that, we got it real good. Fair trade IMO.
I saw a late '60s Galaxy convertible this morning on my way into work. It did stick out like a sore thumb and was great to actually see somebody driving an older car around here.
I have been into the "scene" here for over 20 years, and at first i would hit atleast one show a weekend the whole summer-Got burned out really fast sitting in an asphalt parking lot waiting for the host club to gather up their own trophies so I could leave. For the next 17 years we hit every NSRA or Goodguys shows from Colorado to Florida and Tenn to Canada. Its hard for me to get excited about going to those shows now. The best time you will have is hanging in your garage or your buddies garage either shooting the chit or lending a hand on something. Or just getting the car out and going for a ride. I went to Radical/Porky's a couple weeks ago-way too many new vettes there for me! So me and a buddy choked down that thing they sold me that they called a hamburger and we just headed north-We ended up a Saylorville. We had the wives and I think they apprecieated the ride and scenery rather than sitting in that parking lot looking at the same cars.
