Damn i missed this post the first time around. that was a good history lesson. i remember my brother taking me out with him to cruise Whitter Blvd also near "fiesta 4 drive in", Hollywood, Elysian Park, all the hot spots.

my dad told my brother that if he wanted to go out he would have to take me (his little bro) with him. so as not to get into to much trouble. my brother opened my eyes to the cruising scene. little did my dad know. my brother and I got into so much trouble and we watched each others back. my brother is a big reason as to why i got into cars and doing body work. wanting to change the body lines around and make them soooo smoooth.

it just so happens that i live up the street from Whitter Blvd now. you guys remember the movie Blvd Knights. "come back Chuco" haha "one, one eleven st holmes."

i dont want to talk to idiots in there metal flaked cutlass, but interested in the old vatos from back in the day....

    I agree with you 100%
I fucking dig the pics. My pops and my uncles all have old pics that pretty much look the same. From all the stories my pops has told me and from growing up around Lowriders...Imperials are the shit!!!! They have some of the cherriest rides.. My pops was, is and always will be a lowrider from Echo X Park. Old school style. Lower it, crossbars and glasspacks. I'll go dig up some of my pops pics of his dropped 60 Impala w/ cragars. He sold it when I was born cause he needed the bread (I was conceived it that fucking 60) . I think it's always been a lil regret. That was the reason I scored my 60.

And it wasn't just brown people then, it was anybody who liked cruising low and slow.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well put, that's exactly how I remembered it too.

    [ QUOTE ]

Hippies were invented by Time Magazine and Lowrider cars were invented by Lowrider Magazine.
The cars were just lowered "customs" back then.

I second the motion on that.

    Great Post,
I too love lowriders, and 60's era customs. It is funny cuz I am knda torn as I am building my chevy. I have many influences. I have always loved customs and some lowriders (not all) The guy who own's the body shop where my car will get painted eventually is an old school lowrider. He has pushed more lowrider influenced ideas on me that I really like. I am not as worried about being "period correct", as some are, but I do not want to mix 50's and 60's era styles. No spots, lakes, red wheels, www, etc. If I was building a 50's styled custom I would consider those items. I am running 15 inch chromies right now. I had planned on switching to 15 inch astros. Now I am leaning more twards 14". I guess I am building a 60's custom with lowrider influence.

Lowsprings bringing this post back from the dead? That movie house is one of the coolest buildings in LA.

and I'm still looking for a bomba message board a year later . .

Layitlow.com is still the best I've found, but you have to wade through a lot of enpty bragging to find any tech, and everyone compares products and asks for "the hook up' to buy cheap parts more than talking about how to actually build things. It makes me appreciate the HAMB more though. It's like too many of those guys look at it from a consumer rather than a creative point of view. kinda sad. I want to know what the specs are on a hydro pump. . not just what brand it is and where you bought it, you know?

As for tradition. . . it seems like the generation gap is pretty strongly defined in that scene. The old guys drive the cool bombs and the young guys don't want anything they haven't seen in a rap video. I am sure things are being passed down, but computers may just not be thier bag.

Damn-I needed to see this post tonight. I just found out my grandpa is dying in a month from advanced Alzhiemer's. My dad's pretty shook up and he's having to call all my uncles.
My dad's family's pretty old school-no emotional outbursts here. But these were guys I grew up looking at in my dad's photo album with their Impalas and Bel Airs.
The circumstances suck, but at least I'll be able to see all these guys again [IMG]
I was born in SATX and moved to League City as a kid. Most of the lolos were Cutties with wires and plenty of ghetto bang. Almost everyone that drove one was a gangbanger (Not a generalization, a fact in a small town) This one cat had a fine candied out 64 with wires and dros. I always wanted one but my parents were worried I would get f*cked with by the cops like they did.
I still got f*cked with and had to drive a shitty car anyway...
I'm also torn between the two worlds. Not only do I plan on droppin' my '62 Impala, I want to put a 4-71 through the hood.
can't be any tackier than angora interior [IMG]

just to keep this one alive a while longer. here's one of my favorite cars. this thing is super nice and the paint is this gray/beige color with a transparent pearl over it. hard to see in the photos but so damn cool.

Some lowriders are gods at choosing colors. . . wierd combinations and colors that are right on.

I remember all the local clubs in this area and looked up to them like Thee Individuals of fresno more then 30 yrs old and still going when I was in high school I sold my Lowrider Bike and saved to get an Impala a 67 it was shit but i worked hard and saved for rims"tru spokes" Hydraulics"fenner stone pumps" and joined "Eastside Car Club " now I had old stuff thats how poor I was cause im talking 1993but times changed and I fell outa looks an more into performance and older cars bought a 58 delrey got into rockabilly primer pinups and palmade and again not so long ago 1996 but still I have to say this Lowriding is about the do it your self work hard to make a good looking car i think its lost that with all that bling crap, and hotrods and customizing are the same. WHY PAY SOME ONE TO DO YOUR WORK FOR YOU WHEN YOU COULD DO IT YOURSELF AND TAKE PRIDE IN WHT YOU MADE I
Arato always POOH BEAR DE EAST SIDE FRESNO CRUZIN SLOW AND LOW CATCH YA ON THE REBOUND even if its in a 25 dodge now.
