Here she is. 1963 Monterey 2 DR HT. I've owned the car for about 10 years. Did most of the work about 6 years ago. I think it's time for a change, but don't want to do the wrong thing. I'm a custom type of guy, and don't want to do anything to the car that would put it over the line into a 'lowrider' classification. Considering a minimal chop, just to get the proportions right. Running through my little head right now are thoughts of a dark root beer colored (pearl/metalflake) roof, with a complimentary lighter colored body. Maybe do a pinstriped panel theme on the body. Some chrome bullet moon wheels (not sure what they're actually called) with white walls, remove the lakes pipes, and deck out the interior - find some period buckets/console??, chrome the dash, tall floor shifter, sparkle vinyl/off white seats. Mechanically, the 390 is great and the suspension hasn't seen much wear in the 6 years since it's been rebuilt, so nothing would change there. Could someone hook me up with a quick photoshop chop? Am I completely out of my mind with such thoughts? Other suggestions/ideas?? Thanks in advance!
honestly i would just drop the car down a bit . change the rims to chromies ,and keep the skinny whites....screw the chop .60s don't need chopped and a tall shifter is more of a hot rod thing .it doesn't really go with a 60 custom vibe.... actually i think the color on the car is cool ...maybe do a flake or a pearl top.......those cool cars and you hardly ever see them done..an dthe 2dr models you never see ......you could throw in a set of t-bird buckets from the same year and a console too.......really i think the car is almost there..less is more in this case .....my .02 cents.....
Geez Donnie you sound like your into 60's customs or something.. No really listen to him, he is right. Less is more in this case. The car looks as is, slam it a bit more and add wheels of choice, then call it good. oh, skinny whites for sure..DO NOT CHOP 60'S cars...
I have to agree with everyone else...not much else needed on this particular car. Maybe just change the wheels and flake the top...or maybe some lace panels on the top!? That car already really cool. REALLY COOL!
Thanks for all of the comments/suggestions. Anyone else?? 38 pickup, thanks for the chop, but I'm agreeing with everyone else that it's not the ride to chop. Hooligan, Yes, it's got the power rear window!
NOW THATS A CAR SOMEONE NEEDS TO BUILD !!!!!!!!!!!.....i think i just soiled my pants......nice job........like a mercury starliner.......i think I need to build that car .......
[ QUOTE ] . [/ QUOTE ] Thats beautiful... I mean that flows so well together.. I love it.. Nice photoshop, might even be photoshop of the year for me..
THAT is the Look. I think LowNSlow does need to build that! I agree about that being the Photoshop of the year!!! Make a good calendar shot too! As far as the actual car with the breezeway rear window - I've never seen a two door with the top. A flake top and the T-Bird buckets/console are also the way to go - couldn't agree more. Be gentle with the old girl. I love that car - both the real version and the Photoshop one.

[/ QUOTE ] Most of what he said, except bucket seats in a cruiser that big are an excuse for you to not have your "old lady" sitting right next to you while cruising. If you're still in "love", or dating, keep the bench seat (and put a seat belt in the middle too!)... Keep the bench seat. Lose the PepBoys/JCWhitney lowrider headlight half moons. Don't chop it, doesn't need it. The factory already "tricked out" the back window. Shave the handles and all the badges except one somewhere like on the dash maybe just so you don't go crazy answering all the "what is it?" questions all the time. Candy Cinnimon or Root Beer over flake sounds great with metallic gold on the rest, like this one; http://www.barris.com/gallery_fmonteleoneford.html
I don't know if this helps, but here's a pic of McPhail's chopped '64. Anybody know what happened to it?
Mercury Starliner..........You guys are nuts! Nice old stock b/w pic. That's pretty much what it looked like when I got it. Dr. J - You're a man of wisdom! Wife likes the bench seat, so it'll probably stay. Sounds like I need to focus on paint scheme and interior, along with dropping it even more. Any thoughts for a dual master cylinder on this thing. What will work?
[ QUOTE ] Any thoughts for a dual master cylinder on this thing. What will work? [/ QUOTE ] Check out similar body styles around '67-68. They should have a dual stage master cyl.
i'm seeing an electric blue metallic body, like maybe a dodge viper color, with some sky blue metallic, maybe pearlescent, on the lower panel, and roof, MAYBE white roof, but that might be too busy. astros, perhaps? and pinstripes with the alternate body color, in the sky blue area, electric blue stripes, in the electric blue, sky blue stripes.
Mercury Starliner..........You guys are nuts! haha..you think i am kidding.....i am gonna start looking for a starliner top asap.....i am totally serious....it will rule !!!!!!!!!!....again that is a bitchin car daddy-o..........
On my monitor it looks like metallic olive green. . . and it looks good. maybe just paint the top a different color and leave the green. That color looks right for the time.
yeah,i'd just slam it and put some 5 spokes with skinny whites on it and MAYBE give it a small scallop job or fade paint job..that's it creepy
DadyO are you saying it's a jam jar master in it? Hit a wrecker and look at any 64,my 64 Colony park wagoon has power and a dual master.. Otherwise thats a very pretty car...and yes i'm biased!!! OL style wires...and i mean ol!!!would be tasty!!
Lownslow - I know of 2 '64 Merc 2 doors in the area. If youre serious I can tell you where they are. Ones in Eagle Rock and the others in Woodland Hills or the west valley somewhere. Both are in good condition to start with and are around $4 - $6 grand each. Id love to see that car built and i think you can do it! I always marvel at your car!
